I just got my recall letter on Monday from Electrium, they recon I have purchased my units from Scewfix Between April 2009 and March 8th 2010, after ringing Screwfix they confirmed this and Electrium has sent me the packs with a Supplier Authourisation Form, pre paid address label to send back the form and any MCB's I change and a sticker to put on the CU with a serial number on it.The date on the MCB they have given me is SRRA

Hope this helps anyone who is not sure what's going on

Chas
That surprises me with Screwfix I have had a few faulty items that need returning and they don't seem to know when you purchased anything you end up having to go back through your old invoices from them. Now the electrifix website doesn't seem to have any records of what you purchased its a real pain.

Well it still looks like there a few faulty Wylex MCB's about. I did an RCD change on a Wylex board last weekend NICEIC sticker said it was installed 2010 but nobody has been back to put a sticker on it. I didn't have a list so checked MCB's and made a note of them. I just checked and I think at least three have the faulty batch code. I cannot understand why these have not been checked and changed looks like its going to be more work for me. calls to Wylex on Monday.

Batts  I reckon there will loads of them left in place ..... a lot of guys I spoke to on the subject either couldn't give a damn or were too busy and had no intention of doing the recall.

I know of at least a couple of hundred that have never been done,

'we' were told we couldnt do them as it was too many and their owns guys would do them, they havent been done yet.  :C

Ok sorry to drag this up, but  found some that got away this week and this was the result;

WYLEX 117 (2).jpgWYLEX 118 (2).jpg

Fitted in an Off Peak Consumer Unit for Immersion + storage heaters, installed by Warm Front contractor in 2009, now no longer trading.

The homeowner awoke to a burning smell, the RCD had tripped, thermal effect probably, thank goodness.

Called out to investigate checked my RECALL list and found these were on the list (RIRA)

On phoning Electrium they will cover the cost of replacement and sent a return jiffy bag post paid.

Must be still a load out there so keep at eye out.

No need to apologies, as you say it is 100% certain that there must be more still out there. Unless, Electrium can confirm that every single MCB in the suspect batches have been accounted for.

I've heard talk that Siemens may lose those brand names when possible ,  C/tree & Wylex .

Shouda bought British see.................Oh No .. I forgot!!  you couldn't could you ..'cos we don't make them anymore. :(

I have just changed a Wylex B16 MCB because it was tripping when I used my mitre saw. It was intermittent at first but then tripped every time I switched the saw on. (I even bought a new saw because the manufacturer said the original was goosed and not worth replacing the motor) Replacement MCB has been works ok, could the original have been one of the faulty ones? From memory it dates around the same periods the recall Are these made in China if so would go to explain why faulty,? when I can I avoid anything from China but it is getting impossible as the choice is not there .

I did get a c type to try if the new b did not work but the replacement b did and neither of the saws now trip the MCB so they were behaving differently.

I had an odd one.

A compressor, with a 1 HP motor.  Wired to a 13A plug.  Blew the 13A fuse in the plug every time you tried to start it.

Rewired it to a 16A commando socket on a B16 MCB and it never trips.

I'm surprised it blew a 13A fuse so predictably, yet doesn't trip a B16?

This week i rewired a bodged underfloor heating setup. It was pulling 26A through a 13A fcu & a 16A programmer. Cant say  how long it pulled that current for due to the stat kicking in  but the fuse was fine, the switch overheated and cracked, opening the circuit. It had been in use 3 months.

MCB's get "tired", the same as fuses do, more quickly if they keep tripping, or are run at or near their current limits.

It could just be that the old MCB, was just that, "old & tired"
