wylex recall

hello lads

i may have missed it while i was on holiday last week, but has anyone mentioned the wylex breaker recall?

my wholesalers have had to send back all stocks of 6,10,16, cleared the shelves.

Wylex said they had problems with not tripping all other ratings were fine. I said what about ones installed and they didnt seem to have a answer as yet.

how long has this been known as i use wylex and need to know if i now will have to go round all the jobs and replace them if this is the case will it be up to me as an self employed guy to make good all the c/us that ive installed with what is possibly faulty breakers and swallow the cost of my time and fuel as well!

looks like theres a few c/us in my installs that could be affected

not good... have installed many wylex boards

wonder how they will know whihc particular MCB's are affected? i have around 70+ spare MCB's or all ratings

if there is a problem, is wylex respnsible for replacing installed MCB's, or to pay spark to go and change them?

RCBOs were not mentioned to me.

I didnt pay too much attention as i thought it may be old news and i fit very very few wylex boards, will find out more tomorrow and how widespread the recall is, or if this is sampling for testing or something like that.

Just googled it and nothing coming up as yet anywere, but any info would be good as I've installed a few Wylex boards, won't be happy replacing all the mcb's for free though. Also if we have to replace any mcb's then surely we should retest the circuits again before re-energising - if so what if now something is incorrect so you can't re-energise as homeowner has been "improving" your past work, and would you say its a notifiable job as its in the c/u? I would want to issue a cert for it for sure - all a cost no matter what!

replacing like for like requires no cert, and tbh, i wouldnt do any testing either

Tried to order a Wylex board this morning from Electricfix. Nice lady said " there seems to be a problem and we can't do the one you want at this present time", no reason given, but now it becomes clear.

Strange that, Crabtree are recalling all their stock of MCBs from Denmans this week.

Lately I'm having serious doubts about Crabtree.

I would imagine you call it in to Wylex and they arrange for a swop over, would be the cheapest for them !!

Just Googled Wylex , they are in the same Electrium Group as Crabtree . I can't get to find out what is wrong them and wether the ones I have fitted are dodgey.

only difference between wylex & crabtree MCB's is the name

Really, I hadn't noticed, so Volex will be the same too then , I guess, grid switches are the same.

Well maybe there's going to be a recall on Marbo / Volex & siemens mcb's as thay are made by Electrium.

Just take a look at what the brands of the Electrium group are, they're slowly all merging into one mediocre brand. Won't be long before they drop a couple of names and just selll the cheap stuff with the decent brands badge on. Bit like Hotpoint and Merloni.

I would say I have had more faulty stuff from Wylex than any other brand and thats why I don't tend to use it very much.

Has anyone got any links to a formal recall notice, or warning about any wylex product? Which items are alleged to have problems; MCB's RCD's RCBO's ? A quick search of some on line wholesalers showers Wylex stuff available to buy,
