Yearly advice from old Git

Taking a few days off to rest aching knees made me think  of reiterating yearly warning to young Gits.

 Wear the kneepads from day one for ALL kneeling jobs. ( even as an apprentice)

 Wear  the mask for ALL loft work where there is the vile , loose ,fibreglass insulation , piled 4 feet high , that we are expected to wallow in . 

Edit :   And stop smoking while you're at it , too. !

Trouble is Maneater , when young we  all think we are indestrucible and are going to live forever and time is passing much slower .

I heard that Lemmy was told to cut back on his drinking, he consumed something like 1litre of JD a day. So he switched to 1litre of Vodka and Orange a day as it had vitamin C in it. :lol:

My knees are courgetteed, Arthritis in the family see,  Bought the best knee pads I could find after Deke's advice from about 2 years ago still cant do long stints.

Have given up smoking though!

Mask - N/A, i never set my foot in a loft.

you need a mask for more than just in a loft... anything dusty,  cutting slabs, chasing etc etc

Don't really do any dusty work, other than crawling into the odd understairs cupboard  

I always have make sure i keep my back warm though, trying to put off getting jointers back for as long as possible...

Don't crawl into the odd understairs cupboards! Many parties have ended bad that way.

I did it once when I was about 17 with a French exchange student. It left me marked for life!!

I have never wanted to do it with an English girl after that experience. Now I am too old to do it with any nationality. Even Swedish :slap

Someone listens to the old fool then ....glad to hear it on both counts !!    

On the smoking .... someone I've worked with over the last 20 yrs  has just been diagnosed with possible throat cancer ,  he awaits  the hospital's meeting tomorrow to confirm .    He's going through hell at the moment ...I wish him well .

Heavy smoker until 3 months ago when he changed to the vapour jobby & had reduced the nicotine content to zero.     

So to all of thee who smoke the weed

To add to the subject of smoking, vaping destroyed my need for fags so quickly and has done the same job for a lot of people I know who could not function without fags.

Anyone wanting to quit fags should definitely give it a shot, go have look in your local vaping shop they are usually very helpful & be quick as the tobacco giants will soon get their way...

Concur with the duck, wife smoked cigs for 40 odd years changed to vape last year and has never had the desire for a 'normal' fag since.

I switched to the e-cig/pipe vaping 2 years 8 months ago.

I have now NOT smoked 40,000 fags!!!  Then there's all the cash I haven't spent.

Good going guys .

I often think in terms of the cost of fags , not smoked since 2002,   might see book or DVD & think its less than a packet of 20 fags , buy it you tight git. 

So in Lusk's equation thats about 100,000 fags not smoked and about £30,000 NOT spent on fags .  

Memo to self:   search pockets & cupboards , it must be somewhere. :C
