What is the general opinion on advertising in Yellow Pages ? Did you get a good response from it ? Just got an offer to be included in a block of ads under the ELECSA banner. ( Cost

i have an ad in yellow pages (about 5cm high, in colour) & yell.com.
have got some calls from yellow pages it, but very few people use it these days. there wont be an ad from me in it next year.
most people use yell.com these days so an ad there would be of more use

Yes I have a yellow pages advert (with niceic) a 48mm box ad with 12 lines of wording & the niceic logo as artwork & have keep it going for another year at the same cost.
First job I got off it paid for the advert & the job came in with in two days of the yellow book being put through the door, I get regular work from the advert so have no complaints.
I did make sure it wasnt a rolling contract so the onus is on them to contact me at the end of the term & arrange for the following years payment if I want to carry on the advert.
Also haggle the price I was first quoted was

Opposite for me (but agree about haggling if you want to use Yellow Pages). I've had two jobs in 12 months from Yellow Pages/Yell.com, won't be renewing.

I am in one yellow pages book..
(although where I live I am actually on the border of two books:_|)
just have the one book though in the geographical direction I prefer to work:|
within the NICEIC Corporate advert page..
just had my renewal come though..

I have a small ad in yellow pages does not produce much work. Most of my work comes from recommendation or working for people I have worked for before. I think problem with them pages it has hundreds of electricians in it. So you get a lot of time wasters but it seems to work for some people.

I have never used them but have included myself this year with the NICEIC block advert, and I have been included in the yell.com advert as well.

I did not choose the name to be top, it,s a combination of my surname & what the business was originally set up for back in my 20s, but now it can be transferred to my kids if they want to carry on the business.
I honestly dont mind if you do do that Badger.

As we only started up in October we decided to get as much advertising as possible. We have got both Yell and Yellow Pages.
The Yellow Pages advert has bought in numerous small jobs - which has more than paid for the advert twice over already and helps us to be known. We chose the advert to be eye catching and ensured that we pushed our major points (no callout, charge rate, charged per half hour, NAPIT etc) so it stood out among a sea of boring adverts which give no information. My thought is that the Elecsa/Napit/NICEIC ads only give you a slightly better chance of a call as it's a smaller area for the customer to stick the pin when selecting an electrician.
Yell has been a complete waste of time and money. The only contacts we've had has been people wanting a job, subscriptions to other websites and loads of shysters offering to put us on the front page of Google.
Most of our business has come from word of mouth (and referrals from Binky - who is rushed off his feet!). Do a good honest job for a few little old ladies and the word spreads like wildfire. With programs like Rogue Traders on the telly people prefer recommendation to any advertising.

Thanks guys , a varied response to Yellow Pages there. I've never had to advertise , ever, I've made my living from my regular commercial and industrial customers , three small builders , working with another local spark or the industrial breakdown sparky, but now everyone seems to be struggling.

Not since Christmas I'm not, but have had constant steady work for the last 16 years . Ah well.

The advertisers are feeling it too so when you decide who to go with make sure you screw them right down to the floor!!
Dunno what your local paper is like but I get most of my non-recommendation work from them and they are usually fairly reasonable rates for an ad running 4 - 6 weeks... a bit less risk with your reddies

Had a few refererrals from Yell - its a younger persons thing, certainly get work from yellow pages, but most effective ads have always been local advertising - hence all the little old ladies I've passed on to Dave. Have also had one referreal from Google maps which is great cos its free. NICEIC corporate ad though is a waste of money - no one seems to look at it (1 job only). Bigger jobs tend to come from yell/yellow, but not that often.
