I see that there is no mention of 2377, and the pitfall with this job is its almost insentive based. 240 tests per day? given an 8 hour shift thats 30 tested items per hour or 2 minutes per item. However it would not take that long if your only sticking labels on. This is why I often see items that have been tested with the tamper seal still on the plug top, so no visual of the fuse or wiring has been done, or class 2 items with certificates showing a pass on the earth!

It is feasable that a test on a single item could be done in 2 minutes, but when you think you have to go from room to room, search for the items, register and label each it soon becomes apparent that testing in this fashion is nothing more than a farce. With more and more cctv installations in hotels and other commercial properties it will not be long before we see some of these types of testing companies being shown on a well known TV program.

All I can say is, the clients are being conned into thinking they are having a proper job being done and the employees are being abused by a company who are just in to make a quick buck!

Unfortunately:

1. some clients will look at just the cost implication and base that on having the work done and nice shiny green stickers on everything.

2. Plenty of people out of work at the moment who will jump at this chance especially if they have a mortgage to pay!

Why oh why is the statute law H&S requirement of selection of competent contractors ignored by clients, this goes along with the case law that selection of contractors on price is not acceptable!

Mind the case law may not just be civil law either.

When are these people going to realise, is it going to cost some poor person their life before this gets sorted?

done a PIR on wednesday for a landlord and he asked me about PATing his gear,

he is actually pretty clued up so when I explained to him about 50p an item firms and it wasnt really financially viable for me, he said, 'well what about, say,

I do not do much portable testing I have all the equipment, in fact I got rid of a spare tester last year. I was banging my head against a brick wall when trying to explain why my price was so much higher than a company that is well known in the area. All I said was my price was based on doing the job right, and not label sticking. This was bourne out a few months later when I received a call to say that the surgery sockets were tripping every day, on investigation I found nothing wrong with the wiring all IR tests came back at >500 continuity and Zs tests were just as they were when installed. The fault was traced to an appliance they were using that had an earth fault, date of test? Two days before they called me! I told my employer to add

The thing is with this particular advert, I have actually been told by My local Job Centre in Staveley (North East of Chesterfield) that I have to apply for this job. When I read it, and explained to My advisor whats actually going on, her jaw dropped. How much is the agency involved in the ad, skimming off of the 38p per item to be tested? about
