Meter Tail installation that exceed 3 meters length passing through the building fabric?

Although I agree with all you say, Noz, I think the cutout fuse is often sized based on the prospective fault current. How many times have you seen 16mm tails on a 100A BS1361? On a TN-C-S this will clear comfortably under fault conditions but it's pretty rare to see a 100A fuse on a TNS because...

    Wiring a plug......

:D No, mate, like-for-like replacement so no requirement to fit ferrules. If it's a new cord, now that's a different matter..

    Wiring a plug......

You're already there, it's just an extention of your "price per item". I charge an extra 80p per plug, 25p per fuse (3A to replace 13A etc). Swings and roundabouts...

I offered you a possible solution in post #5 but no response to my question, so maybe you don't read all the replies?

    rfcc readings

The problem has got to be less than a metre away because a one-metre length of 2.5 (I'm assuming your neutral is part of a 2.5 T&E) should have a resistance of 0.0074 ohms and most meters would round that up to 0.01 ohms. What about damage to BOTH cables where they enter the CU. Is it a...

    High Zs

Sorry, have I miss-typed something? This procedure has always worked for me. It doesn't matter WHERE in the circuit one tests for Zs, the meter is just making the line to earth link (high current test, obviously). ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 00:16 ---------- Previous post was made at 00:12...

    High Zs

The way in which a meter does a no-trip RCD test to is, effectively, fool the RCD by saturating the balance coil with a DC-induced magnetic field or by using a test current of less than 30mA. Different meters will produce different results because of this and it appears that Megger instruments...

Thanks, Andy. I couldn't tell a Spitfire from a Mosquito, so I have no chance with a commercial jobby! :Blushing

double pole isolator fitting - Britsih Gas or Scottish Power?

How annoying that a GAS company can offer a better electrical service than an ELECTRICITY company. :(

    1. RCD's in the OFF position 2. All MCB's in the OFF position 3. Place a shorting link from line to earth at the point you want to test. 4. Turn the MCB for that circuit to the ON position. 5. Green test lead on the outgoing line terminal of the relevant RCD 6. Red test lead on the incoming...

consumer unit without main switch, what code?

Don't see why that will make any difference. RCD's (Contactum - ref ProDave's recent post) maybe, but MCB's aren't sensitive to orientation.

consumer unit without main switch, what code?

If I'm reading this right, someone is using a couple of MCB's to break the 6mm feed into a couple of 2.5 radials instead of using FCU's. Nothing wrong with this as far as I can see.

Problem of the week/day WTF is going on here then????

Are there any TV or satellite services in the box? Co-ax makes a really good hose pipe because of the airgap. If the terminal cover on the aerial is off, the rain washes out all the little flies that normally take up residence in the co-ax.
