Customer won't get work done to sign off consumer unit

I agree a PIR should have been done before the installation and the customer notified, given the PIR before any work commenced. However, I hadthe same situation with a flat a few months ago. This is only for installations before 1966 though, it is not dangerous that no CPCs are present on a...

If you are going to concentrate on domestic, I would set yourself up as a sole trader and then put your course/s down as a business expense to offset your tax payments.

Need help understanding 2330 practical testing (Insulation Resistance, Polarity and Continuity)

Doc Hudson does have a point. All I can think is that you are doing too much in too little time, but still don't panic!! I had a four year apprenticeship and did these tests over and over again with my boss standing over me, I hated it, but that was 20 or so years ago!! Take your time mate!

Need help understanding 2330 practical testing (Insulation Resistance, Polarity and Continuity)

Ok, sorry mate, watch the videos and take notes, watch the videos again an refine your notes. Make a list describing each point of each test. You don't have much time. Good luck and don't panic, just remember the points you noted above, its not that difficult.

    Big thanks to British gas

Even if the gas meter could not go anywhere else you would have thought the fitter would have had the common sense to query it and ask for it to be moved!! That is just plain stupid!!

    DIY garage electrics

It really does amaze me, there are not more deaths, fires or damage when you see this type of "installation" all I can think is that electricity is intrinsically safe and all these regulations are a waste of time!! Even the guy who cut through the electrical cable and blew some of his skull off...

    what would you do?

Regulation 701.414 Protective measure: Extra low voltage provided by SELV and PELV. The regulations state that you do not need to use an RCD on the circuit if you have used SELV and I would expect the bathroom light is on a pull chord. If you use SELV lights and the client touched the...

    what would you do?

If the lights are in Zone 2 then they should IPX4 (IPX5 if hosing down) and protected by an RCD, however, if they are SELV then the same IP is required but the requirement for an RCD does not apply. It also applies in Zone 1 as well.

Electrical Installation Certificate / Period Inspection

Really? If a builder says that he can do the work as part of the extension, the house owner is going to say yes please. The vast majority of people don't know about the building regs and quite a few more don't want to know, that's why they place the trust in a builder. I think as Manator and...

Electrical Installation Certificate / Period Inspection

Thank you all for your advice. I can't really leave them hanging, yes they should have had the job done by a professional ME!! But at the end of the day it's about safety, I will go and do a periodic on the circuit and make sure the builder has left them in a safe situation, it would be a bit...
