    "THE" REGULATIONS

On the positive side, just compare the prices of IEC 60364 and BS7671. You'd have to sell your car to pay for the first one!

    Oven & Hob

OK, as long as you realise that I said that because only the manufacturer knows whether the design of the hob allows for diversity or not. If they say it doesn't, because they divert every last amp into one ring or other for potentially long periods, then it would be sensible to take them at...

    Oven & Hob

Be aware that the design of induction hobs can be such that diversity cannot be allowed. This results from the 'boost' function. It all depends on the particular design but in general diversity should not be allowed. The manufacturer's instructions should be followed.

    isolation of live cable...

Obviously not, as the whole point is so people know it's there.

    Stuck on Level 3 Question

Very nice and all that but the question is still meaningless. You have given the answer for the charge on a capacitor with a direct voltage of 230V applied. In the case of a capacitor connected to an alternating voltage, the charge would be constantly varying from 0 to a greater value than your...

    Stuck on Level 3 Question

By the way... Inductive Reactance? of a capacitor? I suppose you have to assume that they meant capacitive reactance. In which case it is 1/2πfC (in ohms).

    Stuck on Level 3 Question

So... is that average or max total charge, and average or max total energy. I don't think those parts of the question are answerable. Capacitors in series: 1/C = 1/c1 +1/c2

    Filling out EIC cert.

G*d! It's not like certificates cost anything. At least if you print them yourself.

    Egaweld - Conduit Sealant

What do people use when fitting weatherproof sockets using PVC conduit? MK recommend Egaseal to seal the conduit entries, but clearly no-one uses it as it isn't stocked anywhere. So what do people use - or don't they bother? :o

    sky + DIY

Sorry, assumed people knew it. The usual problem is that the signal is so strong that you can position the dish over a range of directions, and still get a really good picture. So locating the best position is difficult. So you need to attenuate the signal from the satellite. So you get a tissue...

    Wierd cooker Connections

Most (for example) German domestic hobs are 3-phase. And no manufacturer is going to restrict an appliance for sale to just one country. So you'll find that this is very common.

    Another shaver socket question

Not really, assuming you mesured it off load. The transformer will have some series resistance and on load that will likely drop most of the excess. It's just a way to make them cheaply enough to sell. BTW the one next door. Probably you were measuring a capacitively picked up voltage. It is...

    Test Procedures

I'm referring to a high resistance connection in the neutral. Imagine a 3kW immersion circuit. Imagine that the screw in the FCU neutral hadn't been tightened up. In the worst case (around 17 ohms) this connection will dissipate 750W and catch fire. In another case it might dissipate less...

    Test Procedures

Hi, first post here. I was thinking of sitting 2391, so I have been reading through Section 7 of Guidance Note 3, which roughly corresponds to Section 612 in BS 7671. I was trying to make some sense of the tests to see how logical it was. What I don't seem to be able to find, is any case of a...
