    which wholesalers?

Brilliant, thanks for all replies! From using CEF in the past, without knowing the price, id already come to the conclusion i wont be using them. They would always try and fob me off with proteus gear. Though that was a completely different branch to one near me now (ive recently moved citys)...

    which wholesalers?

Hi all, was just wondering what wholesaler is best for price, ive been using a small local wholesalers, which are okay. but im wanting to open an account elsewhere too. Theres an industrial park with a newey and eyre, electric center, edmundsons and then a CEF not so far away. Used all of them...

3phase lift, borrowed neutral. What code?

sorry not been online for a while. The wiring seems to look newer than the lift, so not sure if a 3ph has been replaced with3ph&n. I didnt disconnect it, gave it a code 2. I didnt open the lift panel, just the isolatoir as an o/s company services the lift. I came to the conclusion that it...

    Ir testing

If you cant remove all loads from circuit just test between L&N connected together and earth. when testing circuits between L-N il always do the test at 250v then step up to 500v if clear. means if you missed something plugged in youre not gonna fry it

    what tester?

i use a fluke 1652, its really good. not used the 1552 but heard its great too. Personally i think its worth spending the little bit extra on a tester, its something you should hope to have for a while, and its important to get accurate readings. Ive used a few cheaper testers, some of them...

    Earth fault loop ohms

sounds wierd, i would definately want to investigate further, just calculating Zs and leaving is bad idea as clearly something wrong! In normal circimstances the meter should never really trip on soft test. If its testing okay on other circuits and at RCD i would be inclined to test the lights...

3phase lift, borrowed neutral. What code?

Hi all, Just after some help with a code for PIR. Jobs at a nursing home, 3phase lift supplied by a pvc 3 core and earth (2.5mm). The circuit is protected by a 20amp mcb, then goes into a small board with a 60 amp mcb, acting as an isolator for the lift, no means of isolating the neutral. Next...

    SF plastic capping

yeah you can get 2x 2.5 behind it. You can get smaller capping elsewhere too, wholesalers or even b&q do it

    CU Move

yeah im with you mate, overlooked the fact its only a 4" brick, wouldnt want the back of of board poking into next room! I would put still put the swa into a DP isolater at meter, depending on demand fuse it down and use smallest SWA cable possible. then suppose you could use an adaptable box...

    CU Move

You could use a flush mounted CU, chase it into the wall. The metal back box has knock outs to terminate SWA. Also because it sounds like your tails will be over 3m you'll need a fused isolater at meter which you will also be able to terminate SWA at...

    Pre sales inspection and report

I would say PIR is best option too, depends how detailed customer wants really. You could do a visual inspection and a few live tests, EL, RCD etc. You could then give them a quote for any work thats required. nether inspection is a legal requirement, especially now HIPs is going!

    Hung Parliment

hung parliement could be good or bad, there all gonna be striking deals to try and form a majority gov i.e. labour & lib dem or cons & lib dem. who knows? Brown will probably go though, IMO. i reckon labour are best to sort pound out, not consv! plus consv wanna get rid of loads of...

    Fixing backboxes to old brickwork

i use bonding plaster, just blob it in and push the back box into it, gets a well nice level finish. for bit of extra strength i push a couple of plugs through then screw into them when plaster dry. best thing about plaster- its cheap!
