Fixing backboxes to old brickwork

Hi all,

I have put new circuits in a kitchen.The brickwork is really crumbly and struggling to fix the back boxes to the brickwork. I believe expanding foam does the trick. Can anyone recommend something? Thanks

If its that bad, I would knock up some compo , stiff mix , and set your boxes in it, might need to drill for a fixing next day when dry.

Or bonding plaster with a bit of cement mixed in.

That CT1 stuff that city electrical keeps advertising would be up to the job

Bonding plaster is the best thing for the job. It dries in no time and you don't even need to fix the boxes after.

i use bonding plaster, just blob it in and push the back box into it, gets a well nice level finish.

for bit of extra strength i push a couple of plugs through then screw into them when plaster dry.

best thing about plaster- its cheap!

Board adhesive is good and if you want it to go off rapid mix it with a bit of dirty plaster water.
