Looking into some advertising at moment to try pull in some more work.

Cash is really tight at moment so really dont want to make any bad decisions!

Anyway was wondering if anyone had any experiance of using those business card racks in DIY stores and supermarkets?

In my area i'd enquired for a price for the homebase. spoke to the guy today said he only had space in wickes, for

Here's a question for you...

I know you know about these "card stands", but have you actually looked at one for a tradesman?

Ask your family, friends and neighbours if you have to, but I'd say that very few people actually look at them..

Letter drops are also useless....

Not that I've used them, but I have heard that local parish magazines are great.. cheap to advertise and loads of enquiries..

there was a thread a few months ago about them when i detailed my dealing with these companies and so did others with their BAD experiences.

Try this...

get some flyers done,,,,,,homemade if you like

when your out and about look for the houses with sold signs outside

drop a flyer in ;)

how many people fit a new kitchen when they buy a new house ?

As said above, keep it local, Parish Magazine, local political party monthly mags , local free papers . Forget the Homebase idea if it was me, never heard of anyone bothering with them.

I've never advertised in 16 years self employed but am going for my second year in Yellow Pages ,ELECSA box this time , last years ad gave me one job with a shopfitter who didn't pay me.

What was his name , now, Oh no I mustn't , not on a public Forum.... came from Sutton Coldfield.... no best not.

well think thats settled it for me, definately not be doing that one then.

Im looking into parish mags that kind of thing, community centres. Someone i know advised me on that saying once you do one good job for church go'ers etc word spreads like wild fire.

In the process of getting some leaflets printed and some decent business cards at the moment. Using that guide written by that plasterer, its really useful.

zeespark- whats FSB?

thanks for your help everyone

ah right the federation of small business.

just been looking at their website, but cant quite understand what they do and how it would benefit getting my name known?

cheers for that andy, will probably join. Could do with some help on a few business things. You a member then? what sort of networking did they do for you if so?

Fletch to be honest I havent yet joined due to financial constraints. When you apply, you get phone call from them asking if they can meet you. This is just for each of you to get a feel for eachother. Then if everything goes ok you sign all the paperwork and take things from there.
