    stable block

Just make sure you can see how the job is gonna take shape, height access is always slower especially moving scaffold or trying to run beam clips and cable if your working alone.

    stable block

it was a few years ago now, i wasnt sure how long it would take so i agreed an hourly rate plus materials. If you can see how you can do the job and allow for any problems then put a price that your happy with, i was happier with an hourly rate as i wasnt gonna loose out.. :^O

photocell light staying on all day

some photo cells will operate by switching the power off and on again quickly, so although there may not be an intentional overide switch, if the power to the photocell has been interupted, it could leve the light perm on untill it is switched off again. To try this just kill the power to the...

    does this comply?

Not trying to start this going again but in the electrical safety councils booklet for periodic inspection codes, it says if you find "circuits with ineffective over current protection ( Due, for example, to oversized fusewire in rewireable fuses)" These should be given a code 1. So if you find...

    What an eejit!

The circut is rcd protected, i wondered why it didnt trip either at first but realised that i touched both live and neutral. So in effect my finger became the load for a split second, there was no fault to earth so rcd wont trip and no overload fault either cos 3A plugtop fuse was still healthy...

    What an eejit!

I unscrewed the cover at the end and pulled the connector out, cant be done without unscrewing. It was just me not being very safe and not unplugging the damn thing.

    What an eejit!

i cant see any problem with the design. just the person who forgot to unplug before taking it apart! I totally agree andy, the point i was trying to emphisize was in the comfort of my own home i wasn't paying attention like i would in my working environment. When elictricity is involved you...

My partner asked me to have a look at her GHD hair straightners this morning as they kept cutting out when she was using them. A fry up now needs bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms, fried/scrambled egg, toast, black pudding, lambs kidney and a slice of fried breads if I'm feeling naughty. If I discover any more requirements I'll need some bigger plates. mmm - I'm masticating thinking about it. haggis is always a welcome...

    fault on lights

If you are putting one probe of your voltage tester on the live conductor at the light switch and the other probe on the switched live in the light switch, then there will be virtually no differance in potential as you are testing the same conductor. your tester measures the potential voltage...

    fault on lights

if the earth is not connected to the earthing system, i.e. the twin and earth is exposed at the light switch, but say is broken in the jb or light pendant. if you test between the live in the switch and the earth cable then dependeing on the length of the cable your reading will differ to that...

    fault on lights

Hi paul, sometimes when you test for voltage and your reference, usually the earth wire in the back box, might not actually be connected at the other end which will give you false readings. :coffee
