Nice rant. It's a pity nobody is listening to us mate.

    Zs and BS88 fuses

haha. International electrotechnical commision. What a load of crap. I've been all over the world mate and I can tell you that 90% of countries don't give a toss about standards of any kind. If you switch something on and it works that's good enough. I've got photo's of a shower in in south...

    Zs and BS88 fuses

i like writing ;) ---------- Post Auto-Merged at 19:23 ---------- Previous post was made at 19:22 ---------- There will be another Amd about every 2 years probably for the life of the 17th due to globalisation. What does that mean? Is BS7671 being adopted throughout the world?

    Zs and BS88 fuses

So really it's the 18th edition in disguise. Either that or they didn't do a proper job the first time round. Now we all have to pay 60 quid for their errors. Oh well it's keeping somebody in a job I suppose. Anybody want to by a red regs book?

    Zs and BS88 fuses

Man its nothing more than a bloody money making scam. 60 quid yet again. Is there any place you can download the amendments?

    Zs and BS88 fuses

Are you telling me I've got to buy yet another regs and OSG?

    Zs and BS88 fuses

I'm on page 101 of the red OSG. The tables are set out differently to the ones for MCB's and I really don't know why. The ones for MCB's don't mention the size of the cpc at all. I thought the rule was that the cpc had to be at least half the size of the line conductors. If this is satisfied and...

    Zs and BS88 fuses

Firstly yes this is an actual job. I see your point Evans and I've pretty much decided to use those values but I still don't get why the OSG is listing Zs values according to the size of the cpc. Can anybody explain that to me please.

    Zs and BS88 fuses

I'm trying to work out what the maximum Zs should be on some circuits that are fed with BS88 fuses. The OSG has tables on page 101 which is all well and good but some of the circuits are using the SWA as the CPC. Can somebody give me a clear explanation how to arrive at a maximum value in this...

A quick question about current carrying capacity tables

Thanks for that. I always turn to the regs book first for some reason but I need to start making more use of the osg. It's all in there if you look.

A quick question about current carrying capacity tables

Thanks for that the both of you. I think I'll take technicians advice on the r x and z values for now :Salute

A quick question about current carrying capacity tables

Can somebody tell me what the r x and z values mean in the volt drop columns for the bigger cables in table 4D1A of the regs. I never use anything this big so I've never had to worry about it. Also is there a table giving the resistance of different cable sizes per meter. I can't see it if...

    European Harmonisation lol

I'll see what I can do. I'm coming home soon and my camera phone is archaic.

    European Harmonisation lol

Hi all. Am I right or wrong in thinking the the whole of Europe is supposed to be working to some kind of standard? Isn't that why we had to change the colours of our conductors etc. I'm working in France at the mo and from what I can see there isn't a standard of any kind. The cables are run...

Zs confusion. What am I missing here?

Your right it is B to D. Better than 1 to 3 which what I wrote to start with. :Blushing Can you quickly me why we need to use the 80%. I know I should know this but I just won't come back to me. Cheers

Zs confusion. What am I missing here?

Hi all. Can anybody explain this to me please. The maximum Zs values for types A to C circuit breakers in table 41.3 on page 49 in the regs book, are different to those in table 2D, page 103 of the on site guide. for example a 6A type B breaker show's 7.67 in the regs and 6.18 in the guide...

Can you complete an EIC without been registered

What's to stop somebody modifying or adding to an existing installation and then just issuing a PIR instead of an EIC. Surely they both carry the same weight when it comes to verifying the safety of the system.
