Out of what Deke, this is not an EU thing it is a global IEC thing.
OK! I thought the EU was pushing our committees to keep changing all this stuff and we were the only ones following orders .
How come they didn't get it sorted at the start?
Thing is a new set of regs shows up the previous edition and makes it immediately outdated.
Like the 14th , must bond gas & water with 6mm then suddenly thats no good got to be 10mm at least.
Meter tails always 16mm then OMG!! We're connecting them to 100A fuses, Quick everyone change to 25mm.
OMG!!! This fusewire is no good ,takes 1/2 hour to blow, stop selling them and everyone change to HRCs & MCBs.
OMG!!! People are using power tools in the garden .... start fitting RCDs
OMG!!! People are going into bathrooms and getting wet ... we must start bonding all the pipes together.
OMG!!! Thats not good enough ...all bathroom electrics must be connected to an RCD.
Oh Look!!! Everyone knows we bond water pipes where they enter the premises, so lets let the plumbers fit plastic fittings everywhere to make it a total waste of time .
OMG!!!! I don't believe it!!! Electricians have been running cables just below the plaster , which can easily be located with a detector, we can't have this , they must be sunk 2" deep in the walls or have an RCD on them.
OMG!!! Look how dangerous it is in a domestic kitchen , there are plugs in there and erm... well plugs ... Oh and theres a light on the ceiling... OOooo and theres a jelly ....no one should be allowed to work in here unless they join the Competence Club ..it won't cost them much .
Oh I know ... you know how we always have the colours on industrial isolators ... so RED shows when its OFF and GREEN shows when its ON ...... weeeellll Hows about we reverse that and not tell anyone .... it is the 1960s after all .
Oh and you know how we have about ten different types of threads on screws and bolts ........ its a little bit silly is't it ? 'bout time we went metric do you not think? It is the 1970s after all. We don't want to look silly.
Oh and while we're at it , the money system..... now lets see , what have we got :-
4 x Farthings = 1 Penny
2 x Farthings = a halfpenny
2 x halfpennies = 1 Penny
6 Pennies = a Tanner
2 x Tanners = a Bob
A Bob is a Shilling
2 x shillings = a Florin
A 2&6 piece = half a dollar
20 shillings =
