    EV charger testers

The Megger MFT1741+ has 6mA DC testing too, and they have an EVSE adaptor coming out for it.

    18th Edition - 1st Amendment free download

No. I bought Amendment No. 1 and was sent a free copy of the Corrigendum to print without watermarks. So it's only the one £5 charge.

CV19 Self Employed grant almost ready

I gave an example of what the south of Ireland did - pay everyone €350 per week. This was put in place instantly and to me was a much more sensible way of dealing with it. Basically I got by living off the wife's money. But because she was getting paid (public sector) I couldn't get Universal...

CV19 Self Employed grant almost ready

That's because they took a ridiculous length of time to announce the support. Given that they effectively shut the businesses down, there was an onus on them to act promptly. Waiting till now (and I still haven't had the money paid into my account) simply isn't acceptable.

It has here. I didn't say in England. Derry closed down at the same time as the south, but hasn't reopened yet.

It's been well over 2 months since everything here closed.

CV19 Self Employed grant almost ready

I'm in the north so it's the same deal as you. A mile and a half from here is the border. There they have been getting a Pandemic Unemployment Payment of 350 Euro a week (regardless of previous earnings) but this is contingent on them having been employed or self-employed. Otherwise the ordinary...

CV19 Self Employed grant almost ready

In theory you could work but given that everything shut down here that amounted to two or three call-outs since mid-March. We're still not reopen here. Today is the first day back for construction and they are trying to suggest that it's only outside work.  I believe heads should roll for this...

CV19 Self Employed grant almost ready

I don't consider three months to be quick. And the amount paid is abysmal. So I would condemn HMRC and their political masters. Appalling **** of the self-employed.

    Why doesn't RCD trip?

You MUST NOT remove the cpc from the Earth bar when conducting insulation resistance testing. This is a breach of BS7671.

Puzzle: I switched circuit breaker off briefly, and now it trips.

That's precisely why I advocate (as do others including some standards bodies) testing them when the clocks change.

Puzzle: I switched circuit breaker off briefly, and now it trips.

I know in Ireland there were TV ads run at one time (years and years ago) about testing RCDs with the test button, so yes it's certainly a reasonable idea. That's not to suggest that I believe that it's likely that such an ad campaign will be started. I suppose the Electrical Safety Council...

Puzzle: I switched circuit breaker off briefly, and now it trips.

I understand that, but was just pointing out that they wouldn't be able to get away with such a nonsensical claim. As long as a tenant had the gumption to challenge and pursue them for it then they would come out on top. I completely agree that many landlords are unsuitable for the role. (That...

Puzzle: I switched circuit breaker off briefly, and now it trips.

I disagree. It's irresponsible not to press the test button every six months (e.g. when the clocks change). The landlord certainly can't penalise you for doing that. In fact they should be instructing tenants to make sure that they do it.

They have an appalling range though.

EICR Query on C2 classifications please

If it won't reset because it's a faulty device, and I don't have a replacement device to hand then I'm afraid the power won't be restored. I certainly wouldn't be removing the RCD. It's not an action which I could justify, and if it resulted in electrocution/fire then I would be in very serious...

EICR Query on C2 classifications please

How would you justify removing a device intended to protect human life? How can you guarantee that an Earth fault won't occur between removal and replacement? It's certainly not an approach that I would adopt.

EICR Query on C2 classifications please

I disagree. It reads to me that the RCCB failed probably as a result of testing, i.e. there was a faulty device which was offering no protection and once it was tripped it wouldn't reset. However in these circumstances I certainly wouldn't have removed it. I would have contacted the letting...
