Help with a weird light switch?

With only one cable going in very likely it has simply been used to make the cable safe as opposed to leaving energised cores available to touch.

Help with a weird light switch?

    That's not a switch. That's a junction box.

Recommended re- test EICR date ?

They are only recommendations, and only for the INITIAL periodic inspection. As Murdoch rightly points out further periods need to be properly assessed having due consideration for the condition of the installation.

Not correct. PEFC is Prospective Earth Fault Current which is phase (or line if you want to be all 17th-Editiony) to Earth. PSCC is Prospective Short-Circuit Current which is phase to neutral (or between phases in a polyphase installation). PFC is Prospective Fault Current which is the...

    Approved Electrician Wanted Edinburgh £17p/h

Not sure. From https://www.gov.uk/holiday-entitlement-rights/holiday-pay-the-basics -  Rolled-up holiday pay Holiday pay should be paid for the time when annual leave is taken. An employer cannot include an amount for holiday pay in the hourly rate (known as ‘rolled-up holiday pay’). If a...

    Approved Electrician Wanted Edinburgh £17p/h

I believe changes to the law actually prohibit it from being done this way now though. I was under the impression that legislation now mandated that paid time off be granted, which could not be rolled over into the pay.

    Approved Electrician Wanted Edinburgh £17p/h

    I believe that is unlawful.

    Consumer Unit.

There is a large area of exposed live parts with the fuse removed. Obviously if you don't come into contact with it it won't hurt - that doesn't alter the fact that it's dangerous. DNO equipment isn't really outside the scope of an EICR given that you must assess it for the Schedule of...

    Consumer Unit.

I wouldn't agree at all. If that fuse is removed there are considerable exposed live parts then available to touch. I would say that the seals are absolutely essential for safety. LOL. I asked someone to contact the NIE (DNO) to have an isolator fitted. Apparently the NIE told them that it...

    Rat found in loft

In fairness to him given that there is a known problem of rodents in the roofspace it isn't entirely unreasonable to strongly advise that the wiring up there be inspected for damage. He should be commended for that. There is a reason why it is called "inspection and testing" and not "testing...

    Extending meter tails.

Firstly it's not necessarily 3m - the length varies between different DNOs (e.g. some might be 2m or 4m) although 3m is a common length quoted. Secondly selectivity (discrimination) doesn't come into it - your BS88 fuse won't discriminate with theirs. It's simply that they won't accept liability...

    Electrical Testing - Price Work

Why would an installation which has had an initial verification be dangerous to leave energised?  :redcard

    Whats That Test Meter?????

I think you will find that Ipf is still PFC. Otherwise you would have to claim that there is no such thing as earth fault loop impedance but only Zs.

    Whats That Test Meter?????

Going to have to be pernickety here: You got a PEFC of 1.86kA and PSCC of 2.05kA and therefore your PFC was 2.05kA.

    63A 3 phase socket

The load exceeds 32A though. (33.2A+)

    63A 3 phase socket

Ignoring power factor it's about 33.2A per phase. Oops... sorry - I see Tony has already pointed this out.

I think you're forgetting that the MoT centre does not travel to you. Nor do they load/unload tools etc. for the purposes of travelling to/from you. In my view it's a complete red herring to compare the two things. (Incidentally here we do not have private MoT centres attached to garages - all...

And that's fair enough. I discount for those who I know have done a lot for me/spent a lot of money on me in the past who I couldn't really repay any other way.

Thanks. Scoobs to you too! I'm sure most of us have done charitable work like that, but certainly we are aware that it isn't a tenable way to operate a business so they have to be pretty occasional. We might also do love jobs for family and close friends, but again this has to be limited.

Indeed. If I happen to be passing/near a job then I will try to catch them together to benefit me. I certainly wouldn't pass the benefit on to the client.
