    Industrial EICR's

Sampling as well, both how much initially and then the upping of the sample rate based on findings but this may be decided for you by the company you work for. A lot do 100% on domestic, you don't want to be doing 100% on industrial, unless necessary.

    Earth fault loop impedance understanding

When parallel paths are involved your fault loop path will also include the general mass of earth via any extraneous conductive parts. Disconnect parallel paths (bonding) for ZE test, reinstate parallel paths for PFC and Zs readings.

Thanks fellas, some sound advice there.

    testing before starting the job.

Interested to know if most of you carry out any testing before you start the job you're there to do or just crack on and deal with any issues once they're found? Simple job today, convert a couple of existing 1 gang sockets to 2 gangs. Open circuit on cpc, spurs off spurs, grommets missing, a...

    mA Tong Tester recommendation cheapo.

I've got the Amecal earth leakage tester, quite cheap as these things go. Not had a lot of use out of it but it seems ok and I bought it on recommendation from other sparks in a group I'm a member of.  Link...

Dad's house flooded, no hot water or central heating (+video)

I addition to the above which is all sound advice it's not uncommon for immersion heaters to sit there unused for years slowly degrading then you go to turn them on when the boiler fails and it trips the RCD. The immersion heater fault may well be unrelated to the flood and just require a new...

    Electrical installation cert

A similar question on this,  If you're working in an industrial unit and that unit's DB is fed from a plant room via an SWA and you have no access to the plant room how would you get the supply characteristics for it, enquiry to supplier? For reference the feed comes into the unit via an SWA...

    Domestic Installer or Approved Contractor

No need to be a part of a scam for industrial or commercial as far as I'm aware. Only benefit is some customers require it or their insurance does and as you say NICEIC is the most known one even though NAPIT are the same.  Go for DI now and that will cover you for notifiable domestic works and...

    Joining a part p scheme

Have a look at electraform, it's pay as you go rather than cough up upfront. £1 a cert so ideal if you're starting out and not doing a load of certs.

    C&G 2330 / Test & Inspection

I agree with you that inspection and testing is covered in the 2330, it was in mine and this may be sufficient to make you qualified and competent to carry out an EICR but it is the last line in the paragraph you've quoted that suggests to me they think you need the full 2391.  "hold a...

    Comments on EICRs.

I did my 2330 L3 a good number of years ago now along with my 2357 (I think that number is right) NVQ level 3 and recently when enquiring with NAPIT they said it was no good on its own, you must have the 2391 or their own £250 course to be enrolled on their scheme.

    Comments on EICRs.

Worries me that somebody is going to get bitten fatally with this current EICR fiasco, what a mess.  Sooner or later la merde va frapper le ventilateur.

What new hell is this ????

No doubt once it's been translated and interpreted to allow for maximum financial extraction and fed down to those at the coal face it'll be another cost to stump up for very little benefit and just another very expensive box to tick.

    floodlight issue

See it from your electrician's point of view too. Like you through no fault of his own he has ended up with some duff fittings and it has cost him money in fuel and time to replace the fittings for you, as said above most sparks will do this for free to keep their customer happy...

HELP! Cheap professional Indemnity Insurance needed

Have a look at Axa, recently had a quote from them for £2m PL and £1m Prof. indemnity for £151 with a 10% online discount, hang around on the quote page for a while and then go to the back/close buttons and a pop up for a further 20% off (so 30% in total) will come up.  Rhino trade insurance...

    How Old Is Yours??

I remember those, slide the back case off and pop the battery out, easy to carry a spare battery although there was no real need to with their battery lives of days/weeks rather than hours like nowadays.  I wouldn't tackle pulling the latest waterproof models apart, as the tech gets smaller...

Daft, stupid, unbelievable or just plain wrong EICR codings

Maybe make a non coded comment in the observations about the lack of smokes if you really want it in writing that there aren't any but well out of the scope of an EICR.

    How Old Is Yours??

About 4 years old, it's an iphone SE, refuse to upgrade because of how stupidly big all the new phones are. I generally keep them till they die, and by die I mean after I've got sick of pulling them apart to put new bits in so I get a fair bit of life out of them. Have it on a sim only contract...
