Extending cables for consumer unit relocation only realistic option joint boxes underfloor boards

Hi all

I'm aware regs state all joints need to be in accessible maintainable areas. Have discussed options with client and they have assured me they would leave an area of flooring with easy access for future inspection. My thoughts are that if this is agreed with note and drawing located at consumer unit would this be acceptable? Thanks

Use non maintained joint boxes, Hager do a range, or get a big adaptable box and push fit connectors, or use old fashioned crimps. 

Your plan is acceptable in my opinion, but if you use a non-maintained joint then any future alterations such has laminate flooring covering the access hatch are not a concern.

Top man Binky I thought it would be as no other options. Will go with the non maintained. Always good to get it confirmed with others

The purists will tell you to rewire all the outgoing circuits  ................I don't think many do that TBH  .     1000 yrs ago as an apprentice  I was told you must'nt have joints anywhere  by a spark ...he had some aversion to them .        Then another sparks points out to me that the whole system is full of joints  ,  all the way through the distribution system  ,  onto a housing estate , Industrial  site etc    .

These nonsense things stick in your head  ...the customer doesn't want you all over the house  , rewiring ,  just do it as the guys say above .

No Bolton they are totally doing away with the old cabinets to leave a flush wall. This is where current head and consumer unit is they are getting it all relocated.

Thanks Evans puts some perspective on things. To be honest on the little inspection I did have under ground floor boards quite a few JB's already present. Atleast our ones going to be in a place where agreed there will be some access if needed

The main head and meter are being relocated. Its about 4 metres to another cupboard don't ask me why but that's what they want and willing to pay the 4 odd grand to UK Power Networks. The new board will be located here also so no issue with tails. The existing gas bonding is under floorboards so while they are up will rewire to outside meter not to far away. Bonding for water testing out good but yet to find the bond so will probably run one to stop ****
