    three-floor hallway lighting conundrum!

It's a bit old fashioned admittedly but it wouldn't be that complicated if the job is still at the design stage which it sounds like it is. Contactors might be a bit overkill but surely most good sparkys, even domestic ones can wire up a couple of D-series relays.....????

    three-floor hallway lighting conundrum!

It can also be done using relays which might give you wider options for switch choice.

    free 3m safety glasses

Page still works for me but the link to their terms and conditions return a 404 unavailable error.

    Why is this allowed?

Well spotted...equally ironic I admit. :) ^^Smutty jpegs, I like it. Lighten the mood and make a backhanded statement to Muslims at the same time. :)

    Why is this allowed?

I was trying to inject some humour into a tense thread but obviously not very well. I'm guessing it a hot topic and a touchy subject and I see I already got descoobed :coat

    Why is this allowed?

Is it just me that thinks it's ironic when people from the UK complain about colonizing behaviour of others? :)

Insulation resistance test on live circuit

Maybe I'm misunderstanding. If you clamp all 3 phases of any 3-phase circuit simultaneously or 3 phases and neutral if there is one then you should see the cumulative leakage current of all the phases.

I.R Test on an Isolated Motor on a live working Industrial Machine

You won't cause damage to the controls if the motor is isolated locally and you IR test it. Connect the 3x lives together in the motor termination box and IR test between them and the frame of the motor. Earthed metalwork will by definition remain at 0V wrt earth or ground. If the chassis of...

    Yearly advice from old Git

Yeah it's the Rand and I meant the British Pound but I don't have the '£' sign on my keyboard. They're about ZAR22.00 a packet, which I think is less than a UK pound at the moment.

    Siezed screws

Soaking in some kinda release agent or lubricant works much better if you can get the screw and the surrounding area nice and hot first, that way when you spray on the lubricant it gets sucked in as the spray cools the area. Also the expansion and contraction with the heating helps break the...

    Yearly advice from old Git

Cigarettes are so cheap here it would be rude not to smoke. Even after the last budget they're still less than a pound for a pack of 20. PPE like masks and decent knee pads cost an absolute fortune.....go figure. :well-confused:

    Siezed screws

It's a bit of an acquired art but you can also use side cutters on a seized screw head.. As already stated tighten a little first then unscrew and go a quarter turn back in for every half turn you go out if that makes sense?

    extract fan fire sea

We use the in-duct fire dampers that have internal blades that are under spring tension and held open with a temperature rated link. There's also one that's like a roller shutter door that slams closed, also has a temp rated link but from experience they're more likely to stick. Both types are...

Windows XP, running slow, and locking up. I have found the solution.

Glad you found your XP problem Dave. Now you're on a roll type 'msconfig' (without the quote marks) into a run box (start->run) and disable any other old lettuced on your PC that you're no longer using.

So, Firefox is rubbish, does a decent browser exist?

I'm using Opera on my laptop which is also WinXP (SP2) and it's perfect. I think it might have crashed once in the last year on some very dodgy porn site I accidentally visited. Your browser instability is likely caused by one of the plug-ins like Adobe Flash for example.....which is possibly...

    Cutting a slot in plywood

So you basically want to cut a center groove like the female side of a tongue and groove floorboard?? If so take it to someone who has a spindle moulder.

    Tumble dryer

Bad joke but I still had to smile. The motor will have some kinda protection somewhere like a fuse on a circuit board or a thermal like a klixon at the motor itself. Problem is you can replace the fuse or reset the klixon but you need to establish why it tripped/blew in the first place. As...

    Drugs

They traditionally use Rooibos tea in this neck of the woods to treat allergies by just drinking it or as a skin application. http://www.lipoid-kosmetik.com/sites/default/files/files/PDF/en/Technical_Papers_Publikationen/13b_Rooibos.pdf. He looks like a brute but he's a big softy.....apart...

    Drugs

His itching is part of symptoms similar to hayfever, even a couple of days without meds he chews paws and legs and scratches himself constantly. He also gets rhinorrhea which is vetspeak for when the snot starts flying...and when I say flying I really mean flying. :)   He's an 8 year old...

    Drugs

Quick question about medication please. I have a terrier, approx 30 kilos and he has an allergies problem where he gets itch skin and chews holes in his fur and chews his paws, it's not uncommon for him to bleed from the nibbling, scratching etc. He's been on Lenisolone 5mg tablets for the past...
