    Deke (Derek Evans)

I’m so sad to hear about Deke’s passing. 😢 (As I only visit on a bi-annual basis I haven’t realised this until now.) He was so supportive of me in my early days of studying and working my way through my apprenticeship and it was something that I still appreciate to this day. R.I.P. Deke. ❤️

    Scottish Power irritating .

I feel your frustration. I had Shell Energy taken £120 out of my account to settle a balance (which they had assured me was £0 when I had spoken to them a couple of weeks beforehand) on an old account for a property that I had moved out of 18 months before that.  There was a lot of hassle and...

    Room power surge?

Do you live in a rural area? If this happens to your neighbours too it could be the auto-reclose on the high voltage overhead lines.

    The ongoing "racist" campaign continues.

Because that man, although he may face a whole lot of issues, does not have to add ”skin colour” to the things he has to overcome.  There is. But if you’re not even willing to look around to see it, I am not going to argue this with you.  ”Their countries”?! No, there is no such thing as...

    The ongoing "racist" campaign continues.

Glad you have faith in me @binky, but I have said everything that I felt needed to be said.   I recently read ”Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race” by Reni Eddo-Lodge. It offers a very interesting perspective on racism in the UK, and it is a definate eye-opener. At times it’s...

Would you have chosen another trade in hindsight?

I’m happy with my choice, especially now that I’m doing overhead work as well as jointing. I like the variety.  Had I not chosen this I would probably have still stuck with horses/farming.

    The ongoing "racist" campaign continues.

In short - yes. Because the way the world is, being white means that you (and me), come from a position of power.    I’m fully aware that most of you do not share my views, that’s fine. But take a look at this thread and take the time to really read what you’re all saying. Out there in the...

    The ongoing "racist" campaign continues.

Just out of interest as I didn’t grow up in the UK, do they teach much about the slave trade?  History is such an interesting thing, as it’s almost always from the perspective of ”the winner”. I mean, I learnt about the vikings being great explorers who sailed to faraway places. You learnt...

A few questions on wiring practices

Best piece of advice I will give is read the quote and do exactly as it says! Different DNO’s do things differently, if you’re in any doubt speak to the connection manager. Send them pictures if necessary.  Also, don’t presume that just because there is a 3ph cable nearby that it will be...

    Lock down "freedoms"

that was my argument too, but apparently the airlines don’t agree... 🙄

    Lock down "freedoms"

The cat was supposed to be on the same flight as me, but no airlines seem to want to fly pets at the moment. So he’s staying with a mate until I can get him booked on one.   😂😆 technically it’s blue and pink... i’m 33, so yeah, grannyism hit me early 😂

    Lock down "freedoms"

It took a few attempts 😆 i’m still waiting for all my possessions and my cat!    We’ll just have to get you a blue wig kerch, someone’s gotta take one for the team... 😂😜

    Lock down "freedoms"

I’ve been looking forward to doing aerial training again as my studio has been shut since march. Now I’m in Sweden and finding gyms and pole/aerial studios that are open it’s like I’ve landed in heaven!

    Highest domestic voltage encountered ?

I’ve seen 300 odd but only during neutral fault conditions.

    Changing meter tails..

I don’t know about banning, but no one really solders things anymore. I’ve only ever used the earth clamps that poni described, as long as you pick the right size for the cable they are good.

    Changing meter tails..

I’m not quite sure I’m reading this right but you can get properties with TT earthing despite a PILC incomer. An area in my old patch had it, but it was really old original installations from just after the dinosaurs died out. The electricity board back in the day just provided a live and...

    Changing meter tails..

Now you’re just being far too logical and sensible Dave. 😄

    Changing meter tails..

Probably more knowing that there is nothing he could do about it. For a start that information needs to be fed upwards in the manager chain. Then for someone to go and test the earth loop in every house in a street they would all need to be notified in writing, appointments arranged unless the...

    Changing meter tails..

”Only your electricity supplier can remove this fuse because only they have the equipment to remove it safely.”    What - hands?! 😂😆 Bloody sparkies keep trying to pull fuses with their teeth... 🙄

BS number of incoming supply head

It looks like the earth goes behind and to the incomer. The other one is most likely a loop that’s been disconnected. Locked to prevent hi-jacking (again)
