    Not a problem.  Good luck.

    Advice for starting out....please!!

I've retired now - but my work was mainly domestic. I struggled to start with (tried Trusted Trader - what a crock of s*** that is!) but it took off when I changed my style of advertising. Initially my advert was all about the brand - professionally produced, artistic and as good as any up...

Remedials for class 2 faults after inspection - Coventry

Exactly what I thought! Absolute rip off merchant. Reminds me of some of the preferred electricians for letting agencies round here!

Remedials for class 2 faults after inspection - Coventry

What a brilliant forum - nice to be welcomed back. I'm doing a lot of community minibus driving and still doing the music with a Neil Young Tribute band This is what we sound like! . Will grow up one day!

Remedials for class 2 faults after inspection - Coventry

First post for a long time as I've retired! Thoroughly recommend it! My Son - who lives in Coventry has had a report done on a charity building. In fairness the  report is very good - but the cost for remedials is just plain offensive. Quoted to fix everything - no differentiation between class...

    What's your favourite tool

Sds and multisaw are brilliant - bread and butter tools - regularly used and abused! Just got a 4.5 inch Worx saw with laser guide and it is awesome! Compact, plunge cut, set depth - enter smug mode whenever I use it! Good luck Miss S!

    Which downlights are people using?

Recently had a job where some upstairs downright weren't working and the customer was complaining of a burning smell. These were open halogen MR16s in an upstairs loft room. On investigation all lamps and transformers were covered in pigeon **** and there was even a nest directly above one of...

    Up against a WALL !

Byron also known as home-easy. Can get wireless switches and wireless receivers or pendants. Plenty on eBay and cheap. A really good get out of jail free card. Watch out for steels which can upset the signal.

    Great for fire prevention!

    TT and metal CU's

Pretty much what I thought! Metal on TT is a backward step whichever way you look at it. Tempted to fit plastic in future and note as a non compliance - B and Q still selling them!

    TT and metal CU's

Advice from my NAPIT assessor today:- Tails need to be clamped above the main switch terminals. Hager do a clamping kit apparently. Clamping below the board on rear entry is not deemed good enough - even with 25mm tails. Surprised as I couldn't see a 25mm tail moving in a hurry. Cable entry...

    LED bulbs not lasting long

Out of curiosity is there any switch start fluorescents on the same circuit? My daughter had a number go down and found it was when the garage fluorescent was used. After replacing with an LED tube there was no problem. Voltage spike via the ballast?

    Small Van Recommendation

Sorry, I was particularly in wind up mode here! I was putting an alternative view point here which customers in poor areas might make a call on. When I said pristine I meant new! The point is that overheads have to be paid for - so the nice van and wonderful sign writing may make you look...

    Small Van Recommendation

I have found that my domestic customers are more concerned with the service they get and the price. As I've said I can carry all I need in an MPV with easy access and have the benefit of not being discriminated against when going to the local tip!For predjudice on the other side - if I see a...

    Small Van Recommendation

I have moved away from vans - generally overpriced and possibly abused. An MPV or estate gives a lot more options and with 5 door access I reckon you can get far more in them if you rack it out nicely. A good trustworthy independent local garage is a good start point. I had a brilliant VW Polo...

Carrying Out And Certifing Own Work

We all have different methods to get where we want (all jobs by recommend) - what's worked for me is local advertising (remember you're advertising as an Electrician - not who you are), looking after little old ladies (LOL jobs as I call them - biggest gossips ever so don't upset them!), leaflet...

    Plymouth

Did a job there once - very prescriptive job description - must have taken longer to do that than do the job! Had to 'borrow' traffic cones to make the area safe!

Decorative Socket Lead To Faulty Appliance?

As far as I'm concerned the jury is out on Hamilton as well - come across a number of failures in the past.
