    2391 question

Well I passed the practical today and the theory three weeks ago. It's a challenging exam which is good because that's the reason I took it, for the challenge. What's the point of taking a mickey mouse exam that teaches you nothing? 37% success rate on the theory which means a lot of people...

    C&G 2391

Why would it produce a dead short between two lines? The motor is not connected, it is just a three phase socket at the end of the circuit. The DOL is switched off. I don't understand where a dead short could come from. Could you explain? Thanks.

    C&G 2391

Hi all. Could anyone tell me if the three phase motor starter on the rig is vulnerable to an IR test at 500V? I'm really not sure about this one. I know how to IR test the complete rig but I don't know if putting 500V across L1-E , L2-E, L3-E will damage this starter. I plan to test from the...

    2391 question

I'm only really thinking about the theory at the moment. The practical can come later even if it means I will re-sit it, you know fail first time. I think I will be OK with the theory. There's a lot to learn. It's keeping me fully occupied. Thanks.

    2391 question

Not much chance of getting more experience on the job so might as well do some exams. Keeps my brain active. Any particular reason why I should not do this exam? I mean studying is a good thing right?

    2391 question

It's my hobby and I hope will earn me some money in my part time. Maybe even full time one day when the post office finally sinks like the Titanic. I work with an electrician at the weekends when I can. House bashing mainly on a Saturday and some wiring on a Sunday. It's as close as I can...

    2391 question

Greetings all. I am due to take my 2391 in a few weeks and am revising. I am a postman so I do not test all day long, the exam is quite a challenge to me. I have this question that has been puzzling me I wonder if anyone can offer any suggestions: Here is the question: "An electrical...

    Flexible 100A cable?

About 2 metres of flexible multi stranded 100 Amp cable to wire three fuse boards together, instead of using 25mm tails cable I want a cable with the same current capacity that is easier to work with when making tight corners inside an enclosed space.

    Flexible 100A cable?

Thanks for the replies. I went to the local independent wholesalers today and explained what I wanted and the guys said that I had no chance. Two electricians in the shop said I would be better off using car battery cable or car starter motor cable. See what I mean, I'm really surprised it's...

    Flexible 100A cable?

Those kits are perfect but they are just not long enough. Thanks for the replies. I would have thought this quite a common problem. It seems strange that I am having such trouble finding the solution.

    Flexible 100A cable?

Hi. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cable that was capable of carrying 100A but was flexible. I am going to wire an S type time delayed RCD, the incoming side will be 25mm cable from the meter but the outgoing side of the RCD will feed two boards. Because the boards are all close together...

    8.5KW shower on 6mm cable??

I work on the assumption an MCB will trip at roughly 1.45 the fuse rating EG 1.45 times 32 Amps. Is there anything wrong with this logic?

    8.5KW shower on 6mm cable??

Thanks. I actually think it will be fine. The shower will be used for short lengths of time and I will make sure there is no insulation covering the cable in the loft. I will probably fuse it at 32 Amps IE leave it as it is and just to see what happens. If I have a fusing problem I will...

    8.5KW shower on 6mm cable??

Howdy. We have an old Mira pumped electric shower, it's not mains fed but gravity fed and it's kaput. The only available replacement is an 8.5KW model. The supply cable is 6mm multi-stranded and about 15m long clipped direct up to the loft and then dropped down in pvc trunking to the shower...
