    Shoreham Air Show

Of course flights have to planned and they should stick to those plans. Airshow displays doubly so as there are strict rules as to what they can and cannot do, and strict rules as to who can fly and what they can fly. The guy flying the hunter was experenced, and according to those that actually...

I am curious about that, do you have a source for that info?

    Shoreham Air Show

Sorry, should have made it clear. My comments on safety relate to innocent members of the public killed. plus I was talking about the UK. And I stand by them. Yes plenty more pilots have been killed but they are not bystanders. They know what they are doing and what the risks are.

    Shoreham Air Show

I completely agree with Sidewinder. What is forgotten when everyone goes all emotional after tragic events like this is that, despite what has just happened, airshows are still one of the safest spectator events! a dozen members of the public killed is tragic but that is it. A Dozen people in...

    Third Party Certification

Do you know if Stroma have any guidelines on how it should actually run? Like you I have no intention of doing any but I am curious...... Like Duane I assumed that DIYer doing the "design" (yeh, right....) and "install" and spark doing the inspect and test meant spark would be able to notify...

    Sbs Trade Sales

Which is is pretty common reaction I think. A good reason why everyone should have one, if only to calibrate their gut feel ;) SBS Dave: those drivers look very like the Klauke branded one I have. I don't suppose you know if your blades fit the klauke? (I need a couple)

Garage Supply , 80 Metre Run

If it is going to be on a 32A type B that doesn't sound right.

Garage Supply , 80 Metre Run

I agree. but just because the volts drop is greater than 3% does not mean that it doesn't meet the regulations. Reg 525.202 says that the 3%/5% limits are basically there for if you cannot guarantee  proper operation as per 525.1 (ie lowest voltage must be greater than the lower limit of the...

Garage Supply , 80 Metre Run

Probably because they save 50p and they don't have the extra neutral running around internally getting in the way of your speghetti wiring ;) I agree with you, I always fit either all RCBO or hi integrity.

Garage Supply , 80 Metre Run

is this what you are talking about? http://www.harbordelectrical.co.uk/consumer-unit-18ways-17ed.html what wylex and co call a high integrity?

Garage Supply , 80 Metre Run

I'd be more worried about getting it on its own RCD/RCBO (but preferably with DP switching...) than the voltage drop. Unless the customer says a potential slight dimming of lights is going to be an issue?

Garage Supply , 80 Metre Run

or you could select the lighting to meet the voltage drop ;) eg. min supply = 217V, 9V drop giving 208V which is above the minimum voltage for a lot of electronic ballasts to start. (eg 198V for these http://www.nationallampsandcomponents.co.uk/en/pdf/tridonict8_1.pdf) In someones shed...

    Third Party Certification

ref the bit in bold. An EICR does not say the installation is safe! That is a bit like thinking your MOT man is giving you a cert to say your car is safe. He is not, he is saying he has tested and not found any faults. Completely different in terms of liability.  Which is the crux of the 3rd...

    Automatic Smoke Vent.

yes, you will need a lot more info. Not only the type of vent but what control options? control panel? firemans overide? manual controls? I'd definitely leave the design to someone who has done it before.

    Ir Test

I find it scary that some people think that a <2M IR is ok with nothing connected to the ring.  that said, you have two choices. 1) put the new board in and hope you don't get called back next time it rains 2) split the ring and find out wher the fault is. Personally I would give the...

    Third Party Certification

actually I think it is only elecsa/niceic that have put 3rd party certs on hold. Don't napit advertise it now? (I could be wrong here...) I think you last point is the key one though. Signing off others work would need someone at least competent to do condition reports, i.e. not someone with...

    Hive & My Old Thermostat

actually I think he has. ;) Piphead: you mention earlier up the thread a box next to the boiler with lots of wires in it. that is almost certainly the wiring centre and the thermostat cable will terminate there. All you need to do is find out which wires and disconnect them there. you can...
