    Multiple Electric Velux Windows

Hi, I've got a customer that has had 7 electric Velux windows put in an extension. Each one comes fitted with a 3 pin plug. Normally I would cut the plugs off and extend the cable with a maintenance free JB down to a FCU at socket level. The customer is adamant he doesn't want that many FCUs...

    Hot Tub Wiring

As said its not something I have done before so trying to find out the best way of going about installing it.

    Hot Tub Wiring

Ok i'll do that thanks. When you say I shouldn't 'connect through' as shouldn't be 'exporting the earth', why is that?

    Hot Tub Wiring

The rod will be within a meter of the rotary isolator, and that will protect the SY flex. I ask about the hot tub having its own RCD as the RCD in the consumer unit wont provide protection for the hot tub if the CPC isn't connected through.

    Hot Tub Wiring

Ok thanks for the help. The consumer unit is 17th ed. so has two RCDs if that what you mean? Is the hot tub likely have a built in RCD do you think if its going to be TT'd?

    Hot Tub Wiring

Hi, I'm going to be putting a supply in for a hot tub. Something I haven't done before. I planned on putting a 6mm twin and earth from the consumer unit to an external rotary isolator, connecting the cpc straight through to a SY flex which will run to the hot tub. However, the company fitting...

Ok thanks for that! Yeah reading was fine (0.23ohms). I'll make a note on the certificate too as you suggest  :)  thanks!

    Opinion On Tns Earth Clamp?

Hi guys, I've just rewired a property that has a TNS earthing arrangement. The main earth is attached to the incoming supply cable with a BS 951 Bonding clamp. I was under the impression that this was unacceptable so rang the distributor who said it was ok. I then rang NAPIT who confirmed it...

Changing Fluorescent Tubes To Led Tube?

Hi, I have a couple of 600x600 fittings with 4x 2ft fluorescent tubes in them (the type you get in suspended ceilings). I see you can get 2ft LED tubes and just wondered if they are a direct replacement or do the ballasts need bypassing? Seems to be different answers on different sites. Thanks

    Which Tester?

Thanks for the replies guys. Ive done some research and MFTs are generally a lot cheaper than separates so I've gone for a Fluke 1652 MFT as it seems to get good reviews. Also thinking about it, its what the college were using for the 2391 course so i figure they must be pretty reliable. Thanks...

    Which Tester?

Hi all, I've currently got a Megger MFT1720 multifunction tester. Had it just under 3 years and I'm not happy with it. It has recently failed a calibration and also the right hand dial seems to have a poor connection between high and low current loop impedance. Im sending it back to Megger...

    Complete Novice

Yeah id recommend On Site Guide to begin with as its worded in a way thats easy to take in. The regs book can be a little intense when you don't know the basics. Don't worry too much though as you'll learn a lot at college and even more out on site getting the experience.

    Tncs Or Tt

I would put TNCS for the supply characteristics section with the Ze/PFC etc readings at the switch fuse. On the NAPIT certificates theres a section on the test schedule form to fill in the characteristics of your new board if its not connected directly to the origin of the installation. This is...

    Opinions On Eicr Codes?

Another quick question, The shower is wired in 6.0mm t&e with 40A MCB. Shower rated at 8.5kW. The cable is buried in the wall up to the loft and then buried in insulation for approx 3-4 metres over to the pull switch. Pretty standard domestic set up imo. Trying to figure out what reference...

    Opinions On Eicr Codes?

Thanks for the replies. The pipework is copper (apart from plastic coming out of ground to stop tap below sink in kitchen) with no supplementary bonding in bathroom. There is protective bonding in 10mm to incoming gas and water stop tap though.
