    Dimmer switches use Triacs and all triacs have a minimum load, the minuimum load on a domestic dimmer is usually 50watts. replace the lamp with a higher powered lamp like a 60watt.

    This happens to PIR's and is normally caused by water ingression or UV damage, the only option it the replace the light fixture. However consult a professional electrician.

    personally i would use a 63amp RCBO however this all depends on what cable size you are using to get to the workshop. for a 63 amp supply you would need to use 10mm cable. really you should use SWA cable as its more hardwearing.

    i would recommend high frequancy as they are more efficiant, lamp lasts longer, dont get as hot however dont last as long as switchstart HF lights have a resonable life of about 5 years depending on use. for plastic fittings dont use switchstart ones as the plastic becomes brittle and breaks...
