Rcd Tripped, Then After A While Stayed On

I had a call from a regular client who has one of the dodgiest electrical installs I've ever dealt with. She had the RCD controlling two socket circuits and the cooker trip during the night while they were asleep, the RCD wouldn't reset in the morning, she left it a while then tried again and...

    Signing Off For Building Control

So I get to a client's house to do an EICR to then have him tell me about building control not allowing the certificate issued by the previous polish electrician to be used because the registration number he provided did not match any part p bodies. He presented me with the certificate He has...

    Radial Or Ring

Still waiting for someone to make socket outlets with 3 pushfit terminals per live/neutral/earth

    Radial Or Ring

Think I'll go with 4mm. It's only a very short distance running free under kitchen counters, 6mm would be overkill

    Radial Or Ring

I'm going to be running a dedicated circuit for just a washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher. I want to just run a 20A radial for this. (10m cable max) With all of them going at once, would this be enough? Whenever I try and find out ratings of white goods I mainly just get the kWh a...

    Kewtech Kt65

I use one and also prefer it to Fluke. I had a loan Megger while I was getting it repaired once and couldn't get on with it

    Buzzing Junction Box

funnily enough every time the PIR was switching it was making a nasty buzzing noise. took it apart and a melted spider dripped out. Magic Gelled a few junction boxes and the buzzing pretty much stopped

    Buzzing Junction Box

I got called out to sort out a tripping RCD the other day. A junction box in a bed of soil was full of mud and moisture. So stripped it all out, re-did the SWA glands with new ones, Wiska box, with wiska earth clamps, wagos etc. We turned it all back on and no RCD trip. Great I thought. As I...

    Snubber for led's

Ok similar one. In my own house, turning off the loft light (T8 tube) will make my subwoofer on my sound system thud.

Notifying The Council Of Cu Change And Additional Garage Submain

Depending on the situation I'd get rid of the RCD in the garage unit and have an isolator instead. Boiler should be 6A MCB or 2.5mm Smoke alarm circuit doesn't need to be on the RCD unless wires are going up chased walls (same with alarm). Get out of the habit of saying "Ring main".

    Snubber for led's

I always found the idea of leaving one with a halogen in counter-productive. We're installing LEDs so lighting is a fraction of the cost. leaving 1 50W bulb in when one set of LEDs can match that wattage, means you're effectively doubling your electricity usage on that set. To think most small...

    Electrics In The Kitchen

I remember a customer randomly spawning a "while you're hear, can you move this 4 gang lightswitch 3m across the wall" 4 hours later... Too cheap, make sure he's certifying and signing off

    back box fly lead

I used to, back when college hammered it into us until the day I carefully looked at how sockets were made and realised the earth terminal and screws were all connected. Logical thinking. What grates me about some of the questions asked here, if you thought about it logically rather than look...
