Hi All

On a job today and i noticed this. I thought the DNO would know better than this!

Would you phone them and tell them beacause i think i'm going to?

Cheers

Wattsy,

Is it the DNO's responsibility / problem?

Which tails?

They may belong to the metering co head>meter, or the consumer meter>db.

Thus neither are the DNO responsibility.

Often some metering guys have no idea anyway!

I havent done any tests yet will be in the morning. About 2m.

To and from the meter.

It always confuses me who owns/responsible for what?

As the tails are shorter than 3m they will be protected by the MCBs in the CU.

It could be that the smaller size conductors have been installed to limit the PFC?

Well the dno are responsible upto the service head, the suppliers are responsible for the tails and metering equipment, arguably the tails from the meter to the consumer unit are the responsibility of the householder.

From the service head the installation needs to meet the requirements of BS 7671, so the meter tails need to be protected against overload.

I dont see a short length of tail affecting the pfc all that much, if the mcbs are rated to allow more that the 100 amps then the tails will be exposed to temps greater that the 70 C, albeit unlikely that most domestic property's will ever draw this level of current.
