10mm tails

been to a property today bungalow. Had 10mm tails with 6mm earth. TNC-s. Had 10mm tails in new colours on DNO side of the meter aswell. I didn't check the main fuse but would a 60amp protect 10mm tails??

Are you sure they are 10mm? Have found some 16mm Tails now seem to have thinner sheath and look smaller then older versions + now using 25mm so much they also look so small in comparison.

Sort of along same sort of lines but today done a CU change with 16mm tails the fuse was already, ahem, removed before and did not want to cut the seals on the meter to upgrade to 25mm. Is the correct course of action just to tell the customer to inform the DNO to change them.

Meter is outside flat so a bit of knocking out would be required.

A 60A fuse would protect 10mm tails , especially as they would only be 2ft long at most, however its an unusual size to find , are you sure they are not 16mm ,often found with a 6mm earth.

It all depends on the DNO

Scottish & Southern seem okay with us doing that.

Whenever I have upgraded the tails from the meter to the CU, it is usually the case the tails from the head to the meter also need upgrading, so phone the DNO to advise them, and of course when they have upgraded their tails they will re seal the meter.

You should not but I always do as a matter of course as said consumer side is customers responsibilty so dno will not change them as they will have to open consumer unit to do this which they will not do.

I tried to get 10mm tails for a small job a while back from Edmundsons in Sheffield - they no longer stocked it - upgraded to 16mm instead.

I have not seen a Wholesaler that sells 10mm Tails. Are we talking these were installed Years ago?

I think TLC have them listed not sure if they stock them though. I occasionally use them in consumer units used a bit today as it happens to link an extra RCD.

'tails' are just double insulated singles. still available in any size, from 1.5 (possibly 1mm), upto very large

although some sizes are rarely used, so may not be a stock item for many wholesalers, but they should be able to get some to order
