Ok, a little question for you all.

If I run a 3kva 110v Transformer off of a 850w Generator, will I still get the full 3kva or will I only get 850w?

And would I still get 3kva if I ran it of a 500w 12v inverter?

Discuss. :p

The ground rules of physics are that with any machine, mechanical or electrical, you cannot get more power out than you put in and you always have some power losses. Unless of course you have a secret that many world governments would be interested in?

As Doc says, you can't get more power out than you put in, so if your supply is limited to about 850W then whether you have a 3kVA transformer or a 30kVA transformer, you'll still be limited to 850W (less the transformer losses).
