Hi,

Is it worth getting a 3.5mm tap for when the lugs on backboxes become cross threaded.

If so wheres best to get one from cos its not worth buying a set of taps and dies just for the 3.5mm one used for re-threading lugs

Thanks

I think they are called thread runners and wholesalers are best bet, I get the longer version as they reach the parts others dont!

real valuable tool, mines a draper one about the size of a small screwdriver.

Or similar.. make sure you get one with a long shaft..

e.g.

some only have a short shaft approx 25mm

whereas others are 50mm!

you will need the length on some back-boxes..

such as when they are sunk behind tiles!

I was told you can't beat a longer shaft!

who was it who said that?........ ]:)

oh yes... Mrs Special:Blushing

But I never knew she had even installed any electrical back-boxes! :p :|

just goes to show you learn something every day! :p

Bought mind from fleabay. Long one, as mentioned above.

I bought it, when someone posted a link to it on here..

.. Where's our Patch. Odds on that he will find the thread with the link in question.

:D

That maybe the one StephenH, Or one like it, at least.

Even I have one!

I use mine all the time. I even run it through the threads on new boxes - it's surprising how even small amounts of debris can damage the screw threads.
Concur! :Applaud :Applaud:)

That has become my standard practice over recent years..

The quality of threads on most back boxed is just a lump of doggy doo IMHO!

And if the screws are a bit softer you end up wrecking the screw threads before you even got the bloomin socket on! :_|
