surely their terminals should be designed to take 32a ?

otherwise why would they be suitable for connection on a 32a ring ?

perhaps similar to a fused 16a commando?

I honestly dont know ?

They should never carry 32A so IIRC their terminals are not designed to take it.

I would have to check the standard for the exact values, and, sorry not tonight.

Just waiting for printing to finish for a customer meeting early next week then off to bed.

Remind me tomorrow, early & I'll check.

Out tomorrow night on a jolly.

iirc 1363 is 20a load between both sockets, but the terminals must be able to take 32a, otherwise you wouldnt be able to have 32a radials...

I don't know what current the 16A socket can carry at the terminals but the fuse or the Mbc, would be before the socket so the terminals would only be carrying 16A

my point was that the MCB would be carrying the 32A load of the total circuit and the socket would be limited to the current of the MCB/fuses (16A)

the terminal don't ever carry 32A, you've got 2 bits of copper touching in single hole and jammed under a single terminal screw, so 32A basically goes directly copper to copper. The loading on the terminal will be to the socket outlet and the appliance connected to it. If you had terminal with individual holes for each cable, then it would need to carry 32A, bit like the Wago push fit connectors.

Takes us back to lighting discussion some years ago, how can you have a 1mm cable on 20A commercial lighting cct. Short answer is that 1mm is suitable to carry short cct current at light fitting (until some prat wires another light off that light, but then a competent spark wouldn't do that!)
