3 way lighting nightmare

good evening boys and girls,

went to a house where there is a 3c+E behind a switch that is A 2WAY coming from a 3rd switch.

switch 1 ;

FEED from light and 3c+e

switch2:

3c+e from 1st switch and 3c+e from 3rd switch

switch3

3c+e

the customer wants the 1st switch turned into intermediate.

I know it's possible but the truth I am stumped.

When you say feed from light do you mean loop plate t/e feed and switch line back on blue/black.

If so connect t/e to L1 and L2 at switch and at the same switch connect the 3/e to L1 L2 and brown/red to Common.

Switch with two 3/e fit intermediate switch, chock block together brown/red and terminate black/yellow and grey/blue. of both cables in the 4 connections of switch.

At switch with one 3/e connect red/brown to common and the other 2 to L1 L2

Don't forget to identify switch wires with brown sleeving

Sounds like a "conversion 2 way" . Are the live and switch wire in the strapper terminals along with two cores of the 3 core and the commons all linked ?

If the 2 way is working why change to an intermediate ?

Intermidiate switching is not difficult unless you let it be.

Lets look at what cables you have at your disposal.

Modern 2 way switching is by means of 3 core and earth which makes intermediate switching very easy.

An intermidiate switch will have 4 contact points, you can place this switch at any point in the lighting circuit, and is most common in larger installations like hotel corridoors for instance.

All you are doing is switching a live,and you can do this at any point in the circuit.

I wish I could show you a diagram to explain in easier terms, but I am not that computer literate.

You could have 20 intermediate switches on one circuit if you neeeded them thats how simple it is.

Are switches 1, 2 & 3 all single one gangs?

If they are, you can place the intermediate switch anywhere.

Replace switch 2 would be my preferred choice. :|

Why do you say you want the intermediate at switch 1 position?

is that because switch positions 2 and 3 are both double gang switches?

and switch 1 is a single gang switch?

with just 3core between all the switch positions I think you would have to have the intermediate in position 2..
