Did you advise LABC before you started the work? If not then you have broken the building regs. Please do not start 'having a go' at everyone that has tried to help you. You asked a question hoping that people would support your actions and that does not seem to be the case and are now getting upset with us all for advising you that it was wrong to do what you did.

Were your many years of working in the industry mainly in commercial?
Ian, I think this will be my last ever visit to an electricians forum.

thank you all for " advising you that it was wrong to do what you did "

obviously you will continue to do so.

perhaps LABC should be informed about your standard of work, which I can trace from your IP address which is enclosed in every post you make, thanks for making it easier to report the cowboys that are destroying our industry,

I do think you should not make such a hasty decision when angry as this forum and its members have a wealth of information and have no problem offering it much unlike other forums.

If you do decide not to come back then that will be a shame as I am sure every member has something to contribute. Either way good luck.

When did you mention this?

I think this is getting way out of hand, if you're leaving just leave rather than posting crap and dragging out a now pointless argument.

I would not be happy changing a 30mA trip with a 100mA trip just to stop it tripping but if you are happy all well and good but really there is no need to get all shirty like that.

mr blutof

irrespective of the nature of your question

and the perceived lack of kowtowing to your experience

your last few posts are well beyond the acceptable for this forum

I don't think he's coming back anyway.

I agree batty and I would be looking to find the cause of the trip rather than masking the problem. Unfortunately we do not know all the in's and outs of the situation as its possible that the cmr has said they would just swap it for a switch the next time so its safer than it could be but...........

I appreciate that some of us (and I include myself in us) can be '*****ly' from time to time but this thread is quite polite compared to some of the barnies we have had that quite often we end up in a better place for it. I'm sure no one on here was intentionally trying to upset the OP but it seems we may have anyway. I do hope he decides to stick around, even if its lurking for a while, as this is the friendliest electrical forum out there by far.

I dont for one : live in northern Ireland, I live and work mainly in England, so get your facts right,

secondly : I have a life, just dont chose to share it with unwilling participants such as yourself, with 20+years of experience I dont think you are willing to learn, its people like you that make people like me have a very poor opinion of 5week wonders,,

apologies to folks that are willing to learn,

thank you Mr Smith, but its water off a ducks back, Ive got worse from more esteemed members, except with a bit of actual factual back up mostly.

and they are mostly correct in their own opinions, if not in agreement with mine.

vague regs I can deal with, outright wrongs I find hard to.

I am now unsure what was going on there as he said earlier he would register with a little club (wouldn't use this job as it is on the assessment though) but then said about NI so I'm now well ?:|

its pretty much regardless, NI is very much the same as mainland UK, I think he was trying to twist it for my benefit,

for all intents and purposes it is the same.

Would be nice to close this thread.

I think everyone has agreed that changing a 30mA rcd for a 100mA rcd to prevent tripping is a dangerous and reckless thing to do.

Itself people like you that make people like me have a very poor opinion of 5week wonders,,apologies to folks that are willing to learn,
I thought he said he had 16 years as a mate

Apologies for my bad behaviour - too much Guinness LOL

Thanks for all the advice and opinions anyhow.

Thread closed Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee :)
