guys

my lads got his last written exam on monday and in the reviosion notes is name 5 testers, we can list the usual 4 but is the missing one is it voltage tester or even phase rotation. tried googling the question but with no luck so though one of you guys might have seen the question before on an exam

thanks

sorry we have

continuity

IR

Loop

RCD

I seem to remember "APPROVED Voltage Tester" being one, with emphasis on "approved".

Again seem to remember being told off for calling it a "continuity tester". Isn't the wanted answer "a low resistance ohmmeter.....used to measure continuity".

So we have:

approved voltage tester

low resistance ohmmeter

insulation resistance meter

earth loop impedance tester

rcd tester

Just don't write "Martindale" - for some reason they frown upon that! :)

Nah! According to most of our lecturers we didn't need to worry about TT "cos you only find that in rural areas!".

well south tyneside, north tyneside, gateshead, sunderland & newcastle must all be 'rural areas' because there is a lot of TT around!

Also Birmingham . Has areas with cast joint boxes on the network with the original earth connections affected by rust /corrosion . DNO will refuse TN-S and TNC-S and just say its up to your contractor.---------- Post Auto-Merged at 20:15 ---------- Previous post was made at 19:27 ----------

How about a clip-on ammeter ?
I was going to suggest a lux meter..........

Nope, Not rural, all the Geordies nick the copper so they cant afford to keep doing TNS/TNCS :slap TT and its the customers responsibility so it saves the DNO a fortune in Toon Town....
Ah! I get it! They bang the rod in as somewhere to chain the Staff to, then the dog wee keeps the Ra down!

Id have saidFluke

Megger

Metrel

Kewtech

Robin

;)
Well that 5 marks you would have lost as it say's test equipment not manufacturers.

As to Lux meter and Clamp-On Ammeter these I would class as a measurement meter as would a voltmeter or ammeter and not a test equipment.

If you stick with chapter 4 of GN3 I don't see how you can go wrong.

1) Low-resistance ohmmeter.

2) Insulation resistance ohmmeter.

3) Earth fault loop impedance tester.

4) Earth electrode resistance tester.

5) RCD tester.

6) Phase rotation instrument.

Perm any 5 from 6.

And if some one argues you have a reference to point them to.
