Hi I am new to forum I am currently training to 17th edition. I was wondering if any one out there can help me get my head around this bs7671 book many thanks

 
Not sure what your question is BS7671 contains a lot of info so you need to say what you want help wih

 
I have got copies of exam papers but don't know where to look in this book for answers as I don't know how to break down the questions to get me to the right section.

Tyne when you say training to 17th, what course are you on/done to get you to where you are today? I only ask as I am struggling to understand why you have not referenced to the bs7671 during your courses??

Welcome to the forum. Just using BS7671 as an answer book to exams is the wrong approach. You need to start reading the various chapters and sections that you must become familiar with for the daily duties as an electrician. No one can memorise the whole of BS7671. We all, (should), refer back to it on a regular basis and you will find there is layout to it, which will then help you to understand how to navigate BS7671. Consider all electrical installation have to be designed, installed, tested, put into service and maintained. Some will be standard type installations others with be specialist non standard installations. Some installations have to have additional protective measures against damage due to the environment they are installed in, others will be robust enough with non specialised accessories and cables. Can you find which chapters cover each of the example areas I have just listed?

Why not post a question you are stuck on and some of the guys may be able to point you to the right section of the book while explaining the process of how they do it?

 
Generally, within the question will be a key word in my experience that will "point" you to the right bit in the index. For actual "how do I use this big green book" types then I'd recommend this other big book:

Not sure if there is a version of this to Amendment 1.

PM me with an email address if u want some PDF practice test papers from when I did it (I saved them all and scanned them). They are from before Amendment 1.

Hi mate,

You won't find the answer to that in the book as zs= ze + (r1+r2) so I'll leave that for you to work out :)

R1 + R2 is the resistance of the line/live/phase whatever it's called in this edition, plus resistance of cpc

Whereas

r1 + r2 relates to ring circuits.

Is that right nozzer? Long time since I got books out maybe time for a re-read cheers

 
You've got the jist of it Matty,,

R1 is the resistance of the LINE conductor in a radial circuit

R2 is the resistance of the EARTH conductor in a radial circuit

r1 is the end to end resistance of the LINE conductor in a ring circuit

r2 is the end to end resistance of the EARTH conductor in a ring circuit

and the (R1+R2) of a ring circuit = {(r1+r2)/4}
