A tricky one? RCD or not?

Looks like i`ve sparked a right old debate here ;) . All good stuff though and helps stimulate the grey matter!

Sparkyt: that sounds a right horror story but one that is heard all too often. A real worry.

Regarding this job, I think Badger was right in that it ain`t the best one for assessment as a minor i.e not the most straight forward?? Good challenge though :D

Perhaps the RCD FCU was a good idea after all to protect just the new socket and also to keep it under the umbrella of Minor works?? Looks like the only option now then is to go the building control route and change the garage enclosure so at least the whole garage is protected. But hey, this could then be the MAJOR job for Elecsa....

Will speak to them tomorrow and keep you all posted. Thanks to you all for your guidance,

Craig

All I can say on this is that NICEIC and other Part P scheme providers are not providing adequate inspection of jobs. I am with British Standards for the part p. On my first assessment I had to show one decent first fix job and two second fix jobs. A consumer unit change would not be classed as a job. They want to see proper jobs ie whole installations including consumer unit. it strikes me the NICEIC are just interested in numbers and not quality.

Hi Batty i think the schemes are more interested in making sure that the members are more competent in testing ,as if some of them couldn't imagine the dangers they would leave behind them, if they can not even fit a few sockets level the mind boggles.

Wasn`t getting at you, Sparkt.

Callout last night:

Young girl - "vulnerable" may be a nice description - 3 young kids.

Broke up with ex, who did the following:

removed sockets, leaving ends of cable bared and laying on the carpet - customer didn`t know they were there, let alone live.

remove 2 pendants completely, and poke the wires up the holes in the ceiling. Remove all wires from 3 other light fittings, and a pullcord. poke the wires up the hole and refit the cover.

Mess the switch wires about in the 2 way, and 2 gang landing/hall system.

rewire 3 double sockets phase/neutral reverse.

They`d had a DI spark there, who spotted some missing blanks in the fusebox, and promised to "come back when he had time". DUH!

Didn`t know if I had the job or not, but wiring was made safe before I left last night. Went there today to sort it out, and they`re happy as pigs in p00 now!!

No point making complaint about "sparky" ( I use the term somewhat loosely)
