whats the longest practical length for an AV cable?

and whats the best option for making one?

co-ax for video, 2core shielded [beldon type?] for audio.?

I probably need about 30m ,

I want to run my sat box out to my shed so I can watch the bike racing, and let the wife watch normal TV in the house.

is it possible, or do I need a booster,?

can you get a booster?

I only have HDMI or AV out from my sat box.

I did an office board room AV system yesterday with a 20 metre hdmi cable.

I didn't know you could get them that long, but it works.

Get wife to watch TV in the shed

Then becomes wifes AV cable length problem NOT yours

Problem solved

I know what I would do..............

Mmmm. CPC, I think I may have heard of them..........

Just local
she is NOT allowed in the shed,

she might find SSS tied up in the back of the cupboard ,

ok folks,

I need info on AV ,

or, can I get a decent HDMI splitter at a poundshop price?

Can you get wifi in this shed? You could try a sling box or something similar? but you won't get that at poundshop prices :( You could also try putting a new dish on your shed? but don't forget to put a rod in ;)

The cat6 sounds the best option IMO

these kinda splitters ? http://www.cableuniverse.co.uk/hdmi-splitter-cable.html?language=en&currency=GBP

I need a new shed thats not full of steel conduit and car parts :(

You could just move the sat box to the shed.  They look nice with a satellite dish on them.

With Baluns over Cat6 you have magic eye like you do when using RF2 on Sky box.
Then Mrs steptoe can watch motorbikes too  :innocent

I've an old AV transmitter / receiver thingy with IR return on that you're quite welcome to for nowt. Not sure as to range though. Made by Welltech and came from LIDL originally, this is one "end" - could probably dig the other bit out and PSUs over the weekend. The manual might take some finding....

Or...........

EDIT: Here you go, page 4, they reckon 100m line of sight etc.

Anything to help a man out with his porn "motorbike racing".

I'd use HDMI over Cat6 mate. As someone else has already said, 2 x Cat6 cables, 2 x baluns and away you go. Make sure if you want to use a/the remote from the shed you get a set of baluns with IR passback though.

This set would do the job nicely:

Be cheaper to bring the bike track to him!

If he doesn't want IR return then for a tenner on eBay I'd take a punt on a cheapo like this:

(I'm looking at the moment for him for the transmitter unit to go with the AV receiver I posted the pic of above and if I find it all he can try that).

 A WIN!!!

Found all the parts! "She" had put the transmitter, psu, IR extender gubbins in one of her "tidy tubs" in the loft behind a wardrobe FFS! All part now in original box - sorry but can't find manual at the mo but you have the link I gave above. If I come across it later I'll scan & email / post. Will package it all up and post over the next couple of days:
