I have got to run a new cable to 6 spots in a kitchen. There is no access from above due to a felted flat roof. What methods do you guys use to run the cable past the joists creating as little mess as possible?

Hi Paul, all good my end and keeping busy. I wished that was the case but sods law the joist are running the wrong way. I think I'm going to have to notch the joist and stick a metal plate over to protect the cable. I'm just worried about the amount of mess it will create.

That will allways be a messy job TBH , wiring against the run of joists.

Two ways.

1. Smash holes in plasterboard so you can drill the joist, have it patched up.

2. Same again but have the ceiling overboarded & skimmed.

I particularly like the 'smash' bit, reminds me of a guy I used to work for, never make a small hole when you could make a big one, especially when another trade had created the problem
