Just about to install an Aircon for the first time and as I was looking through the manual, it made reference to BS 88 HRC fuses.

Am I gonna need to change the Circuit breaker to a C-type for this?

"Fuse Rating (BS88) - HRC (A) 6"

Is basically what is says.

Which brings me to my next question. Is this something I can do a fused spur from a ring? The unit is only 2.5kW.

Ive always done AC on a dedicated radial,

perhaps someone more knowledgable on them could tell you better,

but as Andy says, over 2kW should be on their own circuit.

^as above to me, you need also to consider the start up characteristics.

IF the Manuf' Inst' demand BS88 then you may need to fit them, else, think about the start up current curve wrt b/c/d/ curve.

The last airsource ones which are like aircon units asked for D type breakers and 40 amp at that. Personally I think they would be better on bs88's for domestics but it sourcing them for MCB boards that can be the problem.

Depends on the Aircon unit... the older/cheaper direct online units generally need a C type, however the newer/posher ones are inverter drive (and often its silkscreen printed across the condensor unit under the manufacturers logo) and most times can get away on a B type
