What i assume pantyvest ( :innocent   ) means is, when you walk around the room the led should illuminate when the detector sees you.

I was told by an alarm guy the led's should be isolated makes it more difficult for burglars to rob you that way.

Thats the rule for commercial premises, of course you can also do that on domestics if you want but not many do.

When in walk test as pantyvest posted, the led's are active ;

Don't want to keep on bringing up an old subject, but it might be of use to someone looking for a quick answer.Another way of recognising the orientation (doesn't work every time) is to look at the connection terminals. They vary, but usually the lettering beside each terminal is:- T, T, +, -, A, A for example. If this lettering appears upside down then the passive is the wrong way up (spiderman will be caught this time).
