Just boxed up and found the receipt for the £34.99 Parkside SDS drill. Hammer function no longer works and I've hardly used it. Pity as it looks and feels proper.



Off to Lidl pm tomorrow for a refund. Bought on a whim when my Bosch 230V hammer drill died on me. This Parkside had SDS and was more convenient at home than the 110V Makita. Might give one of those Evolution drills a try:

Yep (well, graphite lock spray tbh). It's the rotary selector switch on the side just doesn't engage / change function.
Ah, right, you don't want to use graphite on them just ordinary yellow grease, but that won't be the problem here then, lol. Personally I'd get another one of those, I don't really rate the evolution stuff tbh.

 1.6 joules impact energy, nowhere near enough you want at least 2 joules otherwise it's going to struggle on proper brick.

We've had quite a few Parkside  devices  , which seemed to be low priced but sound quality , theres still a jigsaw somewhere  that been going for years . 

Made in Germany I think .

I can highly recommend their ( and  lidl ) stepped cone bits .

bought a cheap lidl LiOn drill last week from just for ONE job!.......really impressed and paid for itself already. It has a right angle adapter as well as one for getting into tight corners and some weird paper cutting device


Got two Aldi stepped cones sets...

very good IMHO....

Edit: Nope, grease makes no difference. Nothing happens impact wise on either hammer setting. Tbh this drill is anyway a replacement for the first one I got that sounded like a bag of bolts running and had visible sparks coming out the back end. This sounded marginally better and tbh settled down a bit. Not indicative of the other two Parkside products I have I must say.

contacted Evo

new one sent

didntbwant old one back

fixed old one

now got 2

its ok BUT not for everyday use

however I have a few of their saws

big compound chop,saw

small 9" portable circular saw

saw bench

and best of all their little table top flip saw....brilliant, really good and less than £90. Had it about 3 years and it gets some hammer

also have a small 2" detail belt sander of theirs...also recommended 

just sawing

I bought one of their circular saws, the one that cuts metal and plastic as well as wood, it was ok on ordinary timber but didn't like blockboard, saying that it wasn't bad on cable tray and roofing sheets, I also had a chop saw with the laser, but the laser was a mile out, I think that's what put me off the stuff to be honest.

 
Shout out here for Titan/Screwfix, bought one of their big SDS's for a rewire into hard block, it did the job but failed toward the end ( I'm not surprised tbh it was getting abused), took it back and they replaced it nor problem, even though it was obvious Id killed it.

That lasted almost another year, then they replaced it again! I wont take the proverbial a third time but I bet they'd do the same thing if I tried

Can't see the point of a laser on a chopsaw as it gets covered in sawdust anyway.

uselss invention in my bigoted BUT correct opinion. A bit like a resealable bar of chocolate or a stopper to prevent your wine going off if left open, no need!

I've got the Rage 3 chopsaw and their 185mm circular saw. Like 'em both for rough stuff. Chop saw is great for cutting the odd length of steel then timber studwork. Laser is ****e. I always cut anyway to a marked line and knock the saw square to it as repeatability is pants on them. 

 
Lidl...3 year g'tee on the drill...

Just took it back. Guy on the till inspected it and the receipt and proceeded to try and do the refund. Till then wouldn't take the product code. Supervisor rocks up. Because it's over a year since I bought it I have to contact customer service!

Not impressed.

Be nice to them but stress that you are not impressed at having wasted a couple of hours of your time

they will give you a gift voucher!......but beware these are time limited!.....they don't go off as quick as their 💩 fresh veg though! How do you think I got my vouchers🤔🤐

So we can conclude by the fact you got vouchers, that Aldi customer service is better than some DIY stores??

Interesting  🧐 , all tools for occasional use to be purchased from ALDl or its Brothers store??

 
Well I won't ever be buying any other Parkside power tools irrespective of how good a deal they appear! If you want a refund after a year, so within their much advertised 3 year guarantee period you have to jump through hoops it appears:

"Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding the above product.

If you have a faulty product which was purchased within the last 12 months from Lidl, you may return the product together with the original itemised receipt to your local Lidl store to obtain a full refund.

If you require further assistance, please provide as much of the following information as you can:

I've written a quick response back saying I'll get all the info together but because the process is so much grief and they don't make the guarantee Ts&Cs clear at time of purchase I'll not be buying any more Parkside power tools and advising others not to.

I've made two claims on Aldi products with 3-year guarantee when they have been somewhere in the 2nd or 3rd year of use...

You needed original receipts as proof of purchase..

which IMHO is understandable...

and you had to contact their customer service phone line not the store..

(Legally once its past the obligatory 12month period the store itself has no obligation to do a direct refund/replacement AFAIK)

Anyway..

one item a multi-tool they just asked my post my original receipt to them..

then they sent me a replacement multitool by return of post..

Other item a Kettle..

they e-mailed a pre-paid label that I had to use to send back the faulty item for them to check..

Had to take item to post office & get proof of posting...

But then a few days later got a refund cheque as the item was now obsolete!

Can't complain at all about Aldi's 3-year procedures..

We have also had a Waitrose purchased, (John Lewis), kitchen appliance that failed over 12months old but less than 3-years...

In that instance we initially contacted the store, but were advised because it was over the 12-month timescale we had to contact the manufactures...

Which we did and got it sorted quite easily after a phone call...

So I don't think that the Lidl procedure for stuff over 12months old sounds too far off the industry standard practice...??

You have to understand Lidl don’t employ many persons and those they do are expected to do all tasks, so the post room person on Friday  maybe on toilet cleaning today, canteen duties tomorrow and actually read your letter on Thursday. So expect a confirmation letter to drop sometime next week!!!
