OK it may sound daft but am I missing something in the above diagram?

surely wiring the key switch in this way would short out and trip the breaker?

Depends what sort of keyswitch you use. Perhaps you're meant to use a DP keyswitch, and the switch wires are not shown from the keyswitch onwards. Looks the most logical solution as the keyswitch isn;t shown.

that would be the feed to the test switch and then to the emergency fitting.

the test switch is a 2 way, so it will illuminate a neon when in 'test' mode - which is why you need a neutral at the switch.

on the AM2, you dont have to take the neutral from the light fitting, you can take it from the DB
