Has anyone got any information on the new AM2 test due to be rolled out in April 2010 please

AM2 changes due in 2010

Plans are currently in progress to overhaul the AM2 and potentially bring it under a QCF unit. Changes mooted are the removal of the motor control circuit completely, taking out the MIMS (MICC) installation as it is thought to be a specialist cable and taking out the conduit forming as it is thought to be a level 2 skill.

In comes a S plan heating circuit, segregated trunking and data cabling.

Other changes include the trainee having to complete a full Electrical Installation Certificate, including a Schedule of Inspection and a Schedule of Test Results instead of the old method with a couple of random boxes of information.

The AM2 is planned to be split into 4 sections, A - Installation, B - Inspection and Test, C - Fault Diagnosis and a new section D - Knowledge Assessment. The last part is planned to be a 30 question multiple choice exam with a 90% pass mark. The exam will cover health and safety, working at heights, security systems, building regulations, protective devices, hand tool and single and three phase supplies.

i cannot go into detail of how i know but....andy's statement is more or less correct. however the motor is in AND fed on an SY type cable:coat

i disagree with the mi removal and conduit removal-conduit is better than level 2- the AM2 at present requires one piece with a set and two bends in it-----if it is so semi-skilled how come so many candidates make a hash of it? ROTFWL

i agree with some of the additions to the AM2 (like the heating), but dont think the motor/pyro should be taken out

I would think it is not a bad idea to remove the Pyro, can't think of a single instance where there is not a better alternative.

Why would you keep it in Andy ?

I agree Motor and Conduit should stay, but maybe thats my background

i just think its a good idea to keep it, thats all. not really any other reason for it

pyro is still widely used in certain parts of the industry like petrol stations, big fire alarms here and there and AFAIK all pubs in manchester. unless it has changed all lights sockets etc are all wired in MI

i think pyro is ace. it takes ages to do so puts off unemployment quicker than the alternatives:x

MIMS is out, Conduit is already installed, Motor circuit is pre-wired only to connect motor. Testing and Inspection will a 3 hour assessment, candidate to complete a full EIC with all the relevant documents. S-Plan, Cat5e, Co2 detector, Solar Panel. Safe Isolation will be 100% [about time]. 30 MC questions [online] must achieve 90% to pass. New AM2 much harder to pass as it will encompass level three standards.

All starts on 12th April 2010.
