I have a predicament I wish to discuss with you all...I have some time off over the next two weeks........{edit}
How much do you get paid per hour by your normal employer?

use this figure x how long you think you will need.

+ materials cost

+ travelling

+ a bit extra to cover unknows...

Then use that as your ABSOLUTE minimum starting price!

for

Hey do not under sell your self I have a friend worth a couple of mill now. When he started I done all his work.On the cheap as mates go for a drink

Electrical /CCTV/DATA/ ALARMS. He brought in a yts who would do it cheaper, but didnt know how to.

Always came back for me to rectify price was same as I would do the job for in the first place. They are paying for what we know not what we do .

If you went into a pup and spoke to a Soliciter or Accountant for advice would they give it free not where I am.

We are the same advice is experience.

Spent 4 hours discussing over

Designer, Installer, Tester, Health and Safety man... and apart from all of that, he will not be shy at coming back to you if something packs in.

Put your own value on it but get paid!

A friend in need is a friend indeed

Who gets the better deal? the young lecky who will be glad of the experience even if the pay is a pitense . Or the property owner who wants a load of work done for free?

I think he got the better deal. Tell him, thanks for all the experience, and advise him that work done by experienced electricians, doesn't come cheap.

If he say's he'll supply the cable say no, you'll be using your old off cuts he's bought:^O:^O:^O
UPDATE FOR YOU ALL

What a nightmare, got there and he had pulled a load of odd ends of 1mm twin(both cores red) 2.5mm twin, 1mm singles, 1mmtwin core no earth. He had got them from scrap yard "may as well do best you can with these"

3 luminaires from his mate all smashed up, lamps missing, they were enclosed though!

after sizing up the job i went back over to the scrap yard (about 100m away) to explain the gear he had left was no use what so ever. But was adament that the stuff was fine and had just com out of his mates stables so no reason why they shouldnt work...you cant get through to people like this!

after getting abit bored I starte to bamboozle him with rubbish saying if neighbours saw his stables goin up and rung the council he could be in massive trouble if they came to inspect and saw a crappy unsafe installation

1/2 an hour later I was down the wholesalers, 3 brand new luminaires, conduit, the lot! haha

amazing what fear the feds can strike into people!

Did you agree a price?

That reminds me of a job I did years ago when I first started. Similar for someone I sort of new. Anyway they had me putting up a load of secondhand florrie fittings in a large workshop. Spent hours doing the job and really should have tested fittings before I put them up because a couple had the ballast burnt out. They didn't like it because the whole site was through one RCD and it kept tripping which did not do there computers a lot of good. What I had not realised was they where in financial trouble and I did not get a penny for any of the work I did B...RDS.

A nugget from an old journeyman of mine many years ago.

If in doubt, charge like the Gordon Highlanders. Charge, charge, and charge again.
