Hi ,

Got a problem on a Fiat Ulysse which keeps cutting out fuel pump. ECU was water damaged that has been replaced, large control relay next to ECU has also been replaced a car was fine for one whole day. Now it's cut out again, refuses to start and large relay is clicking like a machine gun.

Any ideas on causes. I know I could solve it with a gallon of fuel and a box of matches, before anyone else suggests it.

Thanks

The Admin family had one of these if I remember correctly.

What did he have re-programmed on it? Might have been the ECU

He'll no doubt be along soon

Hello Tuneup,

Sorry for the delay in replying - I have only been on long enough for a quick check of the forum, for the past few days.

I had a similar problem to this, when I bought a "V" reg fiat ulysse.

Before I explain what my problem was - what is the reg/year of your Ulysse? What is the code on the ECU? Magneti Marelli IAW 08P . 22 or Magneti Marelli IAW 8P . 22 etc?

I bought my old V reg 1999 Fiat Ulysse - with this problem existing.

The car wouldn't start and was confirmed that ECU had gone (not working) also - there was a manufacturer emobiliser built into the key fob and central locking.

What happens you turn the ignition on? I mean are there any lights? what light are on? Do you see a "white K in a black background"? If so, this allegedly means (according to the Fiat Ulysse fault diagnosis guide, that it is "Self Diagnosis, fault in the fuel-feed/ignition system". This was not true with mine as Fuel was coming through alright.

Like you have mentioned, my double relays were clicking, fast and furiously next to the ECU. But mine was also clicking in two other places too - altogether trey were:

  1. The unit at the side of the ECU. (double relay) - ECU works off of these apparently.
  2. No 7 Relay in the fusebox. (a circular symbol on the FB diagram).
  3. Somewhere towards the rear of the car.
The problem with mine was that it WAS an ECU fault! And once I sent it off to a company in England - they looked at it. They contacted me to say that it would need a Complete rebuild fix and a re-code. I told them to go ahead. They sent it back and it worked first time and everytime! (I had to send two ECUs off - it's a long story).

The company was: ECU-Testing - click here for details. Absolute fantastic service and price. Hopefully I won't need to use them again, but if I did, I would. And, as you can see - I would highly recommend them.

I also had an Auto electrician out - but; despite trying three seperate laptops/computers, he couldn't communicate with the ECU.

I hope that helps you in some way - Please come back and let us know of when there are any updates/when it gets fixed. We really do care on this forum. :)
