Any Members Affected By Floods ?

Just wondering , no one has said anything .      I think we are fairly lucky here as B,ham is one of the highest cities above sea level in the UK .

Occasional flooding from River Tame near Villa Park is all I can think of .

been nothing here. literally nothing. very little rain. almost no wind or anything. seems as though the north east has been forgotten about

either that, or its just as bad here, but we can deal with it no problem

Well I live about 800m from the beach ( never actually measured it though)

We have had a couple of blustery days, I have a couple of puddles in my driveway.

2 miles down the coast they have brought the shrimping boats and tractors off the beach and put them near the road. Other than that, nowt.

I have NO idea how I would cope with the situation they have down south

Road outside me was originally a water course down the valley..............and it is again! Passable so far BUT the water is opening up damn great pot holes which are easy to miss as you think they're just a big puddle! The roads had been neglected before all this rain.

Fire Brigade rescued a family from a car with young children a couple of miles away. Even the nearby river ford is closed to traffic as it's just too deep.

here's a photo from last year after some really heavy rain. the photo was taken the following morning, best part of 12 hours after the rain stopped, yet its still flooded

and whats with all these peple who need 'rescued' formt he flood? usually when they need 'rescued', they are shown to be going through flood water less than a foot deep... surely you can manage that yourself without needing a boat brought to your door

There was a house struck by lightning the weekend before last not far from us....

dry in the moring...

then wind and hale and then thunder...

then....

My in-laws live probably less than a mile from here as the crow flys!

They are not as high up a hill as this house was though..

There at quite a few houses a couple of miles away that were flooded out,,, loads of insurance contractors in at the moment.... Loads of new CCTV gone in to protect the empty houses and I bet the old Bill are getting quite a bit of overtime

A few miles down the road,,, our sailing club has had a couple of feet of water on the yard,,, we've had few boats off their blocks floating around and we've had to get a crane down to put them back

I fess up. It's all Scotland's fault.

The land mass of Scotland is slowly rising, something to do with the last ice age and the removal of the weight of all that ice after it melted. As Scotland rises up out of the mantle, England is still sinking. Bit like a sea saw.

Perhaps someone thinks if we get independence, we will detach ourselves from England, and so stop the see saw action and solve your flooding problems at the same time?

It just basic science....

Go have a look at a globe..

see where the UK is....

Pour some water at the top of the globe around the north pole..

see which way it flows over the UK...

DOWNHILL!!!

The problem is just that the lazy barstewards darn sarff haven't bother to unclog the drains..

If you get your rubber gloves out at the weekend and clear the crap out of the U bend..

all the water will just flow straight out and end up covering France instead!!

Well it certainly has been belting down today. I had to do a small job this afternoon in a town a few miles away. Finished about 5.30 so thought I would take a route through a few villages to miss the traffic.

     Big mistake one of the villages was cut off with floods. Now my van is fairly high up (Transit)  so I thought I would risk it.  A car in front of me tried but decided it was a mistake so turned back. I decided to carry on. Now I have never seen water like it it was actually quite scary.  I carried on and luckily got through it. I did notice quite a few cars had not made it l Know for a fact if a road is closed your insurance will not pay out if you damage your car.

   I think in future I may think twice about going through floods.

Deploying  equipment for the crews/forward command post, communications work keeping the radio systems operating in the work areas & across the county, and tomorrow I believe we are going to be used as 4x4/LGV drivers to give crews some down time.

Sounds more rewarding than doing house bashing.
