always did like Cobras, but never really fancied a Morgan, looks nice though. Missus still has a thing about the old Ford Mexico - kind of shows our age. Is it me or do modern go faster cars not have the same appeal???

I put my mate in NZ in touch with Dax up in Harlow and he's just finished this:

V8 Ford Falcon lump. I was supposed to go and take his test drive for him, this after he'd ordered the kit. I rang Dax up and it seems you can't actually drive it but get driven so told them to go poke it. Anyway, Steve's pretty pleased with the end result seeing as it was bought "unseen".

Morgans have never really grabbed me, the latest one is 'orrible. I just sold my Mk 2 Cortina Gt for stupid money, haven't used it for 5 years so no mot or tax, engine tapping a bit , bit of rot & got £5500 for it. Only paid £1200 for it 7 years ago.

OMG!!!!! I had a Cortina Mk2 1500 GT the pre cross flow thing.. I scrapped mine... Wish i still had it!!!!

Anyway, no, the modern "go faster" cars are a load of crap, feel sorry for the kids now.. The bikes are much the same, ok, there are plenty of them, but not many "proper" ones. Look at the 50cc rubbish they have now.... all them stupid "twist and go" scooter things, must be the kids now are too stupid to even screw a nut on a bolt, never mind change gear..

Scrap all that twist and go junk and bring back FS1E's with expansions!!!! and air cooled RD250's and XL250 motorsports, ooh and CB 900's and CBX's too and T140 bonnevilles, and Kawasaki triples and 850 Norton commando interstates, [used to lust over one of them when i was about 10] and 3 litre capri's!!!!! [cos i had one!!!] and while i am on a rant, proper gearboxes in lorries too!! and oh yes, can i have a 1974 BMW R90S please???

john....

If we are talking old cars, I'll remind you of my 1972 Landrover.

"Petrol head" is hardly the phrase that comes to mind though. We refer to it as "Mr Noisy"

But I love it's simplicity compared to modern cars.

I remember the FS1E a it's rival the AP50, and the RD250, and my old single cylinder Honda CB250

I wish I still had my Mk1 Ford Escort, though it would have needed some serious welding by now.

I had a honda 250 single too!!!! It was a thing called a Cb250RS a road bike but with the four valve motor from the XL250 trail bike. Was not a bad handling thing and the motor was great, but the front brake was not up to much, partially siezed caliper or something i expect. Wish i still had that too!!!!

Love the old mk 1 and 2 escorts the flat fronted mk2 rs2000's and zakspeed mexicos were the best, way before my time though unfortunately and they go for serious money now.

i've got a s2 escort RS turbo sat awaiting some attention when I get the spare time and money

That's the one.

Brilliant handling, you could really throw it around.

Mine was the Deluxe version which meant it had electric start. But it had a dodgy tooth on the starter ring so more often than not you had to bump start it. And in their wisdom, they omitted the kick start from the deluxe version.

we never had restricted bikes in norn iron,  :D

could even ride a 250 on L plates [if you could afford the insurance]

I know a guy darn sarf that has an AR50 that does over 80mph  yes, a genuine 50cc, he built it for moped mayhem,

its a real trick bit of kit, usd forks and everything.!

I had a FX1E-DX for a short while before i got into cars, my first car was a HB Viva. Almost forgot i 'inherited' a step through Yamaha 50 that was in the garage of a house i bought, rode it  up and down the service road a bit and sold it for a £100.

When i was about 8, i had this friend that was 24. Whenever i was not in school i was round his house learning about cars and stuff as he was a mechanic for the fire brigade, and used to repair cars as well in the garage he had on the back of his house. Anyway, he had a Mk1 lotus cortina twin cam. This was nothing too remarkable in them days, and in fact he swapped it for a SWB landrover!! Oh how we laughed!!! i was only 8 but even i did not think it too smart a deal!!!

well then, what was the worst car or bike you ever had?

I had a 250 honda superdream, FFS, anything over 80 and it was like a gate with a hinge in the middle, woeful.!

as for cars, I learnt to drive in a mk1 fiat uno, talk about a rust bucket........ but it was a fast little thing for an 1100cc

oh, and after about an hours driving it would just stop, you had to turn it off for 10mins and then it would be ok for another hour!!!!  :C

bit like an AR125 I had that over 7000revs all the lights would go out, talk about frustrating at night, 7000rpm equaled about 75mph so at least it kept me inside the speed limit .!

jeez, the more I think about it, the more I could start a thread on the rubbish bikes Ive had over the years..........
