SqD (Schneider) bought out what remained of Federal Electric, this is where the plug in type design came from IIRC.
Indeed, as far as I understand it Square D were manufacturing equipment under the federal brand up until approx 1997 when they dropped the name.

That explains the newer federal stuff (painted a brightish blue colour, rather than grey) that was better shrouded inside and had MCBs to BSEN60898... that standard didn't come out until the 1990's and federal as a separate company had gone out of business long before then

I am aware of the problems with the yank made original federal boards, but am unsure whether the UK stuff of the same age suffered from the same defects, although I do remember an incident involving a trapped twin and earth which shorted and the fault blew itself clear and left the breaker in the on position and half the circuit still live, Zs was out of spec though.

I used the "stab" version of SqD for years on commercial industrial and domestic with their DOMO?? Boards

Never had any issues

I still have some brand new never opened RCBOs. And loads of three phase MCBS which have been used but never had a fault across them

Since i now only have one client with this style of board the breakers will,be going on ebay shortly.....but i will list them on here first

Just ebaying
