I was called out to an apartment today where the owners had received a new cooker delivered by the Local Electricity Authority. The delivery man had told the owners that a fused spur was needed to connect the cooker to the electrical supply safely.

On receiving this information by telephone I arrived at the apartment expecting to find either a separate oven or hob to connect to a switched spur but no, the 6mm T&E cooker load from the cooker switch was running through the cavity wall and then straight through a low level outlet plate mounted on a dry liner/ fast fix box. The delivery man had cut the old 6mm twin and earth and used 15A connector blocks and tape to connect the new cooker to that old 6mm.

All I needed to do was cut the old 6mm T&E at the outlet plate and put in a low level cooker connection plate ! - then connect the cooker !.
