Hello,

just wondering if anyone on here had done been in the royal engineers as a sparky, with no company

hi johnston1991, my advice if you are young and keen would be to go for it. Not only will you get a recognised qualification but you will also get all the other benefits which go with it. You will gain other skills, make some really good mates, earn a decent wage in these very hairy times and you will also get a pension out of it.

When your mates from civvy street are still bumming around you will be getting transformed into a new person with skills, which should set you up for a very long time

I totally agree with the above, not only will you gain all the above but in many sectors ex forces personell are highly regarded because they have proved they can work effectively in a team, they have self discipline and have to be flexible.

I have a sixteen year old lad who leaves school later this year, I'm encouraging him to do either an army or RAF apprentiship.

thanks for that info its pretty perfect for the way things are , is the fitness as really bigger part of it as is put across? i know need to be a lot fitter than your average joe but is it somthing that would really be focused on in a sector like electrics?

cheers :D

I think health is more important than fitness, obviously you will need a certain level of fitness but it's more important in other regiments I would imagine.

There is quite a lot of info on the Army website, definitely worth looking at.

haha cheers dke il keep that in mind :p

and alright cheers im going to head into the careers office this week anyway sure theyl know there stuff just thought id see if any one would recommend it

thanks people

I wish you luck with it. M107 is ex millitary. There are others on here. They will give advice.

A stable job and recognised qulaifications are a bonus!

:)

yep i was in RAF doing aircraft electrics/flight systems

My lad is in the process of going in the army and in the REME

but his choice is a heavy vehicle mechanic only because of his eyesight

He is 15yrs 9 months done his barb test (IQ tests) and now waiting for his medical stuff to come back from his doctors.

As long as he gets his 3 GCSE's he could be in the Army in September or latest January on their foundation entries.

All he needs to do is 6 yrs then he can leave,,,,,,,,,an employer seeing his cv after that will be well impressed

Electrical side wish i had done it

Yeah I was in the R.E. doing bomb disposal amongst other things. :)

All thats been said & more, if anything it teaches you something about yourself, to be humble. etc, etc.

I would reccomend it to anyone wanting a career that gives you usable qualifications.

If you want to be sparkying in the army then the REME is for you (they dont do bomb disposal)

Good luck whatever you decide to do. :)

Been away for the week so cant add much more to what the others have already said.

(1) Be reasonably prepared fitness wise.

(2) You'll be taught as an infantryman first & foremost, then move on to trade training that you have chosen.

(3) Stick with it during basic training, some tasks seem pointless but remember it's all in an effort to get you pulling in the right direction as a team & to weed out the w*****s.

(4) Dont volunteer for anything.

(5) If you make it through training, you'll have the time of your life.

(6) Dont go p***ing your wages up the wall every week/month (thats what the recruiting sergent told me & I didn't untill I left 7RHA & went to Germany.........yeha party timeGuiness Drink:^OB-) )

(7) Learn to iron properly (take an iron to basic training the supplied ones were ****e + you can rent it out to other NIG's for extra fag cash)

(8) Just enjoy it , I can say it was the best thing I ever did.

If you want to ask questions go to the forum here (British army rumour service)& look under ARM/SERVICE you are thinking about (REME).
